Beware of child tic when children blink

Nine year old Qiang Qiang always blinked his eyes in an exaggerated way this semester. His parents took him to see his eyes and he was diagnosed with conjunctivitis; Later, he was diagnosed as rhinitis in the otorhinolaryngology department due to his love of wrinkling the nose. However, in the process of treating rhinitis, the mother found that the voice of the child was always "honking". Then the parents felt something was wrong and hurried to Chengdu Dongchenggenshang Street Children's Hospital. After careful examination and confirmation by the doctor, the child was suffering from multiple child tic syndrome.

Yu Xingwen, the chief physician of the hospital's child hyperactivity disorder and tic syndrome expert, said that child tic syndrome was a disease caused by repeated and alternate twitching of a group of muscle groups and multiple groups of muscle groups, accompanied by involuntary vocalization, caused by functional defects in the extravertebral system of nerves. The first symptom of most children is blinking and frowning. The blinking is strange and exaggerated, which is abnormal at first sight. Then there will be such strange movements as sucking nose, pursing mouth, opening mouth, extending tongue, nodding, shaking head, shaking head, and raising head. With the progress of the disease, the twitch symptoms gradually diversified, including shrugging, twisting the neck, kicking, shaking the legs, twisting the waist, chest and abdominal muscles twitching, shaking the hands or limbs twitching. Vocal twitch refers to the twitch involving the respiratory muscles, pharyngeal muscles, laryngeal muscles, oral muscles and nasal muscles. When the muscles in these parts contract and twitch, they will make a sound, such as "oh, oh, ah", or voice clearing, coughing, sniffing, spitting, etc; Complex vocal twitch is characterized by involuntary repetition of meaningless words and sentences or swearing for no reason, which is inconsistent with the environment.

Yu Xingwen, the chief physician, stressed that tic is a disease, not a child pretending to be strange, nor a "bad habit". Symptoms occur involuntarily. Without timely and effective treatment, tic disorder will not only affect learning, but also make it difficult to establish self-esteem, self-confidence and sound personality. Some children may have conduct disorders in their adolescence. Therefore, tic should be diagnosed and treated as early as possible, but it must not be misdiagnosed, mistreated or given the wrong medicine. Reporter Bai Shuang
