Xiaobin (not his real name) has a U-shaped scar on his neck, which was tightened by the red scarf. The boy in grade three of primary school ended his life at the age of 9 with a red scarf.

According to the police in Guiyang, Chenzhou, Hunan, Xiaobin's death has ruled out the possibility of homicide, and suicide is unlikely. On May 5, the family members of the deceased reached an agreement with the school. That afternoon, Xiaobin was cremated.

After the lights went out, the red scarf tied his neck

On the afternoon of May 5, 203 boys' dormitories in the center of Ouyanghai Town, Guiyang County were completed. In the corner near the window, a pair of sandals of Xiaobin was lying on the ground in disorder, the quilt on the bed was rolled up in a ball, and his pants were still hanging on the iron frame on the upper bunk. In the pictures taken by the family members on the night of the incident, a red scarf tied in a circle was hung on the bedstead.

On April 29, Ouyanghai Town Center held a mid-term exam at the end of primary school. After self-study next night, 13 boys from Class 117, Grade 3 returned to Room 203. 20:40 is the time for the school to turn off the lights and go to bed. Before turning off the light, Xiaobin was playing in bed alone.

About two minutes after the lights went out, someone in the dormitory heard Xiao Bin "ah", but the sound was not very loud. A classmate reminded Xiaobin: "Don't make any noise, the teacher will come to check the bed soon!"

At about 20:45, Liu Shan, the head teacher, went to Room 203 to make a rounds. Finding Xiaobin hanging on the bed, she rushed to pick him up and untied the red scarf tied around his neck. One end of the red scarf was tied to the iron frame of the upper berth.

"At that time, his head was hanging on his red scarf and his neck was tightly tied," Liu Shan said. At that time, she immediately called the dormitory administrator to rescue Xiaobin by pressing his chest. The child was then sent to the town health center one kilometer away.

The doctor of the town health center confirmed that Xiao Bin had stopped breathing when he arrived.

The police have ruled out homicide, which may be an accident

On the night of the incident, Ouyang Youwu, Xiaobin's grandfather, walked three kilometers on a mountain road. When he arrived at the hospital, his grandson "was cold all over".

Xiaobin is a left behind child whose parents work in Guangdong all year round. The day after the incident, Ouyang Jianguang, who came back from Guangdong, saw his son lying in an ice coffin at the funeral home. Ouyang Jianguang said that on the night of the incident, the forensic doctor of the Guiyang County Public Security Bureau carried out a postmortem examination and found no other scars on Xiaobin except the U-shaped mark on his neck.

"The possibility of homicide has been ruled out." On May 5, He Wenfeng, the director of Liantang Police Station of Guiyang County Public Security Bureau, said that through investigation, no signs of suicide were found in Xiaobin. "It should be an accidental death."

Several students who shared 203 dormitory with Xiaobin confirmed that no stranger entered the dormitory before the lights went out that night, and Xiaobin did not have any conflict with others. Xiaobin sleeps in the same bed with another student. Before turning off the light, the student fell asleep and slept towards the wall. Xiaobin is playing in bed. Their upper bunks were empty iron shelves, with no bed plates. "At that time, he used two hands to hold the iron shelf to play," a classmate named Gong in the dormitory told reporters. "He seemed very happy."

A classmate surnamed Deng recalled that Xiaobin played with a red scarf on the bed that night. Before the lights went out, Xiaobin tied the red scarf on the bedstead overhead. After the lights went out, Deng, who was still awake, saw that Xiaobin "grabbed the red scarf with his hands and stuck his head in." Gong Bing (a pseudonym), who slept opposite Xiaobin, recalled that he heard Xiaobin "ah" cry about two minutes after the lights went out. Most of the students thought Xiaobin was still playing in bed. A minute or two later, Liu Shan, the head teacher who came to check the bed, found that the situation was wrong, but it was too late. Liu Shan said that Xiaobin's academic performance was "above average". Before the incident, he did not find any abnormal performance. "He has always been obedient".

The school's "humanitarian assistance" is 157000 yuan

Why did Xiaobin tie his red scarf on the iron frame and put his head in?

No one can explain. "He may think it's funny." Ouyang Minshun, the deputy principal of Ouyang Town Center, speculated.

Ouyang Minshun believed that the school had no management responsibility in this matter, and actively rescued after the incident. The family members of the deceased questioned that the central primary school of all more than 800 students was not equipped with school doctors, which led to ineffective rescue at that time, and the "golden time" was missed when they were sent to the hospital. On May 5, Ouyang Minshun explained to the reporter that the school clinic only had drugs for injuries and colds, and "there were no professional medical staff on it."

Afterwards, Guiyang County Education Bureau and Ouyanghai Town Government intervened to coordinate. On May 5, Ouyanghai Town Center reached an agreement with the families of the deceased after primary school. According to the agreement, the school will provide a one-time "humanitarian assistance" of 157000 yuan.
