Children often lose their minds in class because they suffer from epilepsy

Experts remind that watching TV or playing computer for a long time is easy to induce epilepsy

The 28th is the 8th International Epilepsy Care Day. This year's theme is "doctors and patients work together to overcome epilepsy". The reporter learned from the "Epilepsy Care Day" large-scale doctor-patient fraternity held by the Affiliated Hospital of Jinan Medical University that more than half of children first got sick in childhood. Experts remind that summer vacation is the high incidence period of childhood epilepsy. Many children have epilepsy because they stay at home, watch TV or play games for too long.

This year, 7 year old Nan Nan is often distracted in class. When the teacher asked questions, he often did not respond and did not sleep. It was obvious that he was stunned. Ms. Wu took her son to the hospital and found that he was suffering from epilepsy, indicating abnormal neuronal discharge.

"Not all epilepsy is characterized by convulsions, foaming at the mouth, and a major seizure. This kind of sudden absence seizure is also common." Zhu Cuiping, deputy head nurse of the third ward of the Department of Pediatrics of the Affiliated Hospital of Jinan Medical University, said that at present, the ward has received four or five such patients, mostly children aged 7 to 8 years. Some children suddenly drop their chopsticks when they eat at home, but they don't know what happened. All of them are sudden absences. "If the mother is abnormal during pregnancy or childbirth, fetal hypoxia, brain damage, etc. will lead to epilepsy in the child, and fetal congenital development or congenital metabolic abnormalities will also lead to epilepsy."

"There are many types of epilepsy, some of which are insidious, but epilepsy can be cured after regular treatment." Niu Haifeng, vice president of the Affiliated Hospital of Jinan Medical College, said that parents should pay attention to children who have sudden changes in consciousness, such as stupefied, suddenly stopped eating and other symptoms; The clinical manifestations of neonatal epilepsy are mostly rigid and repetitive actions, often accompanied by abnormal eye movements. If the infants have regular body movements such as nodding, kicking, and extending their arms, it may also be seizures, and parents should pay attention.

Niu Haifeng reminded that parents should not shut their children in to watch TV and play with computers for a long time when the summer vacation is coming. Long time use of electronic products is also likely to induce epilepsy, "Epilepsy is caused by abnormal discharge of neurons. The strong flash stimulation of computer, TV, game console and other screens can cause abnormal excitation of nerve cells. This excitation is the trigger, which will cause abnormal discharge of neurons, leading to seizures. It is recommended that you watch TV and other electronic products for no more than half an hour."
