Fan Fan, a 10-year-old child in Wuhan, was recently diagnosed with gout in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of the People's Hospital of Wuhan University. According to literature search, this is the youngest gout patient in China at present. According to Fanfan's parents, the child cried out about toe pain three months ago. They thought it was the excessive exercise that caused the pain, and they did not go to the hospital until the child was too painful to walk. It was found that the blood uric acid value of Fan Fan was as high as 490 μ mol/L, while the normal value of adult male should be 150~380 μ mol/L. The child's pain was caused by gout. It turned out that he had a preference for seafood, pig liver and other foods since he was young, and he ate a lot almost every day. Parents never controlled their children's diet.

Professor Li Yaming, director of the Third Department of Orthopaedic Surgery of the People's Hospital of Wuhan University, explained that gout had an important relationship with unreasonable diet. There are a lot of purines in seafood, animal viscera, hot pot, beer and other foods. Excessive intake will lead to purine metabolism disorder in the human body, resulting in the accumulation of uric acid salts in joint tissue, causing pain. Failure to intervene in time will further damage the liver, kidney and heart functions. In serious cases, chronic arthritis will occur, leading to disability.

At present, there is no medicine for gout in children. The doctor ordered Fanfan to stay in bed and drink more water to improve the symptoms. Li Yaming reminded that gout, which is extremely harmful, can occur at any age. People should "keep their mouths shut" and eat reasonably. Xinhua
