E-commerce presenters go on stage to help farmers

Wang Dan, a Pinggu girl, was an animation designer with her own studio ten years ago. At that time, she did not expect that 10 years later, her work was very fashionable. "Every time someone asks me what I do, I have to introduce for a long time."

Help villagers find a market and teach fruit farmers to sell peaches online

Just one week after the opening of Pinggu International Peach Blossom Festival in 2024, Wang Dan and his team have completed 50000 live broadcasts. "The sisters are too powerful." She could not help sighing.

In the live broadcast training base of Pinggu New Farmers Lecturer Group with an area of more than 300 square meters, there are classrooms, live broadcast rooms and supply chain product exhibition rooms being renovated... Wang Dan's design team is stepping up the debugging of AI artificial intelligence, the new owner of the "New Farmers Lecturer Group" Digital person Anchor Sister Dan.

When a student learned that Wang Dan was studying the AI digital person anchor, he couldn't help asking: "When are you afraid that 'she' will replace you?" Wang Dan listened to this, but he couldn't help being pleased. "It seems that our training is effective, and AI artificial intelligence is nothing new here in our fruit farmers."

Wang Dan majored in landscape design in University, and started animation design after graduation. If her father had not been seriously ill, she might have done what she loved in the city like most young people. In 2013, in order to take care of her family, she chose to return to Pinggu to start her own business.

She contacted a supplier of knitwear and textiles and started an online shop, with sales rising all the way. "How can I sell things on the Internet like you?" This was the most frequently mentioned question by fruit farmers during her time.

"Pinggu Big Peach is so famous, why are farmers still worried about finding sales channels?" Wang Dan had no land at home, let alone planted peaches. Round peaches and almonds were the only way she distinguished Pinggu Big Peach at that time. She began to wonder if she could do something for the simple fruit farmers in her hometown?

Wang Dan later learned that because of the single sales channel, the farmers hard planted large peaches, although of good quality, but the sales mainly rely on the purchase of vendors, without any bargaining power. In June 2017, Pinggu District Bureau of Commerce, Pinggu District Women's Federation and other departments found Wang Dan and asked her to teach fruit farmers to sell peaches online. That year, Wang Dan officially became the "Teacher Wang" in the mouth of fruit farmers.

The first "peach selling class" lasted for eight hours, with a hot smart phone

Wang Dan clearly remembered that the first e-commerce class was held in Liujiadian Town, the main production area of Pinggu Datao.

On that day, in a conference room of the town government, fifty or sixty students poured in early in the morning, most of them were fruit growers in their fifties or sixties with gray hair, dark skin and wrinkled faces. Wang Dan spoke with passion, but there was silence underneath. A fruit farmer couldn't help shouting: "Mr. Wang, we can't use mobile phones easily and understand them. You can sell the peaches for us directly!"

"I was surprised to hear that at that time. It may be more difficult than I thought to teach villagers to do e-commerce to sell peaches."

Wang Dan readjusted the course, how to connect with WIFI, how to send friends through WeChat... Some fruit farmers listened to her class in the morning, bought a new smartphone in the town at noon, and came to class with a new phone in the afternoon. "The idea of fruit farmers is simply to sell more peaches." Wang Dan later teased his colleagues, whose training sparked the nearby smartphone market.

The first class lasted 8 hours, and Wang Dan's calf got cramped. The fruit growers have poor memory. After learning, they forget the front. They ask again and again, and Wang Dan teaches again and again.

In order to facilitate communication, Wang Dan established a WeChat group, "Even if you get up at 2:00 in the morning to pick peaches, if you have any questions, you can always ask in the group, and my mobile phone will give you an answer as soon as it shakes."

That summer, Wang Dan only slept three or four hours a day. Someone painfully said that she was "stupid" and did not understand her persistence. Wang Dan always responded: "The annual output of Pinggu's big peach is hundreds of millions of jin. Only when the fruit farmers grow good peaches and sell them at a good price, can Pinggu's big peach industry develop better and more healthily, and it will definitely benefit everyone."

From a student to a lecturer, the "traffic king" sold out agriculture products

In 2018, Pinggu District developed the "Internet+Big Peach" project, and Wang Dan entrusted the online store to the staff management. With the support of the government, he established the "Pinggu New Farmers Lecturer Group". After the "audition", seven fruit growers changed from trainees to lecturers and stood on the platform with Wang Dan.

"At the beginning, many fruit farmers thought that we were here to promote, and they didn't eat too much." Wang Dan said, watching the fruit farmers in the same village with the help of the team, they delivered big peaches in baskets, and the farmers who refused the lecturer opened the door again.

Since 2017, Pinggu New Farmers Lecturer Group has passed through 16 major peach producing villages and towns and more than 100 villages in the region. It has trained more than 60000 fruit farmers, with an annual per capita income increase of more than 3000 yuan. "Among the students, there are about 30000 new media accounts in the whole network, forming a very large account matrix, which plays a vital role in the sales of Pinggu's good things and the promotion of cultural tourism. Among them, the number of hits of a single 'traffic king' video is more than 5 million, and the number of views of a single live broadcast is up to 40000."

Fan Ruiping, the "traffic king", sold more than 700 boxes of peaches through e-commerce last year. Fan Ruiping not only sells large peaches, but also other agricultural products. When her own is sold out, she helps other farmers sell them. Because of their excellent performance, in 2023, they also stood on the podium with Wang Dan for advanced individuals of e-commerce agriculture assistance in Pinggu District. This year, Fan Ruiping has started to carry goods live.

In a recent training class, the fruit farmer who shouted "I don't understand" in the first class of that year shouted to Wang Dan again: "Last year, we sold more than 10000 yuan of mobile phones at home! This year, we are trying to sell better."

Plan to work in Pinggu e-commerce live broadcast base and share high-quality resources

Three or four months before Pinggu Peach ripens every year is the busiest time for the lecturers. On the opening day of the new Pinggu International Peach Blossom Festival, Wang Dan and the anchor team had a mobile phone. They introduced their hometown confidently and professionally to the mobile phone screen, warming up this year's peach sales.

Wang Dan said that Pinggu's e-commerce industry has developed rapidly in recent years. From farmers riding tricycles to sell large peaches at low prices in the market decades ago, to high-quality food baskets and fruit baskets such as "Doctor Farm" and "Guotao" now, through e-commerce, Pinggu's entrepreneurial environment and development prospects are more and more optimistic. "Especially in the past two years, Pinggu has released many friendly signals, attracting investment and talents, experts, scholars, large enterprises, and even well-known anchors such as Dong Yuhui have become regular guests of Pinggu."

By the end of 2028, we will strive to cultivate a hundred billion level live broadcast e-commerce industry cluster, and the continuous favorable policies will inject doping into Wang Dan and his peers. Wang Dan said that in a few days, the AI digital human e-commerce anchor based on her prototype will be officially launched, which is the first AI digital human anchor in Pinggu. "With the accelerated gathering of e-commerce enterprises, AI anchors must become the norm."

The reporter learned that Pinggu E-Commerce Live Broadcast Base has planned talent training center, new e-commerce science and innovation center, public selection center, big data application center, and new brand incubation center. In the future, standardized local textbooks will be developed, and training programs for e-commerce presenters, new farmers, and entrepreneurial businesses will be carried out with well-known enterprises such as Alibaba and JD. Wang Dan said that when the base is completed, her team also plans to work there and share high-quality resources.
