The Mid Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, the Autumn Festival, the Mid Autumn Festival, the August Festival, the August Meeting, the Moon Chasing Festival, the Moon Playing Festival, the Moon Worship Festival, the Daughter's Day or the Reunion Festival, is a traditional cultural festival popular among many ethnic groups and Chinese character cultural circles in China. Since 2008, the Mid Autumn Festival has been listed as a national legal holiday. On May 20, 2006, the State Council was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists.
Mid Autumn Festival Festival
It is a very old custom in our country. According to historical records, as early as the Zhou Dynasty, ancient emperors had the custom of offering sacrifices to the sun at the spring equinox, to the land at the summer solstice, to the moon at the autumn equinox, and to the heaven at the winter solstice. The sacrificial places are called the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of Earth, the Temple of the Moon and the Temple of Heaven.
Scholars admire the moon
The custom of appreciating the moon originates from the worship of the moon, and the solemn sacrifice becomes a relaxed entertainment. The folk Mid Autumn Festival activities began in the Wei and Jin dynasties, but they were not practiced. In the Tang Dynasty, it was very popular to watch and play the moon in the Mid Autumn Festival, and many famous poems of poets had poems about the moon. By the time of the Song Dynasty, the Mid Autumn Festival, a folk festival centered on the activities of appreciating the moon, was officially designated as the Mid Autumn Festival. Different from the people in the Tang Dynasty, the people in the Song Dynasty enjoy the moon more because they are sentimental about things. They often describe people's emotional state by saying that it is cloudy or sunny or round or incomplete. Even on the night of the Mid Autumn Festival, the bright light of the moon cannot hide the sadness of the people in the Song Dynasty.
