PBT

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT for short), a polyester series, is an opalescent translucent to opaque crystalline thermoplastic polyester resin made by polycondensation of 1.4-pbt butylene glycol with terephthalic acid (PTA) or terephthalate (DMT) and through mixing process. Together with PET, it is called thermoplastic polyester, or saturated polyester.

2. Common applications of PBT

PBT must be dried at 110~120 ℃ for about 3 hours before injection molding. The molding processing temperature is 250~270 ℃, and the mold temperature should be controlled at 50~75 ℃. As the material will solidify and crystallize once cooled from the melting state, the cooling time is short; If the nozzle temperature is not properly controlled (on the low side), the flow channel (nozzle) is easy to be cooled and solidified, which may lead to plugging. If the barrel temperature exceeds 275 ℃ or the molten material stays in the barrel for more than 30 minutes, it is easy to cause material decomposition and embrittlement. During PBT injection molding, a large nozzle is required for glue injection, instead of a hot runner system, the mold exhaust should be good, and the conditions of "high speed, medium pressure, and medium temperature" should be used for molding and processing. Fireproof materials or PBT nozzle materials with glass fiber should not be recycled. During shutdown, PE or PP materials should be used to clean the material pipe in time to avoid carbonization.

In 1970, it was put on the market with 30% glass fiber reinforced plastic under the trade name X-917, which was later changed to CELANEX. In 1971, Eastman Company launched glass fiber reinforced chain and non reinforced products, with the trade name Tenite (PTMT); In the same year, GE also developed similar products, including three types: non enhancement, enhancement and self extinguishing. Then the world famous manufacturers BASF, Bayer, GE, Ticona, Toray, Mitsubishi Chemical, Taiwan Xinguang Synthetic Fiber, Changchun Artificial Resin, South Asia Plastics and other companies have successively put into production.
