Tieniu Village, Pujiang County, 80 minutes' drive from the main urban area of Chengdu, is a future rural park community co built by more than 3000 local villagers and more than 60 "new villagers".

It is understood that many people are willing to give up the high salary in the city and choose to take root in Tieniu Village, where there are many overseas returnees and highly educated young people; Young people who did not know anything about agriculture found jobs in the village. They are all called "new villagers" of Tieniu Village. Although they have different identities, they have a common goal: to build a harmonious village with local villagers.

Since this year, the reporter has visited Tieniu Village, a model village for rural revitalization in Sichuan Province for many times. He wants to know why these people come here to participate in rural construction? What do young people do in Tieniu Village? Is Tieniu Village really representative of the future village, like the slogan "Tieniu Village, Future Village" seen at the entrance to the village?

Many "cattle" people came to the village

At present, there are more than 60 resident "new villagers" and more than 300 migrant birds "new villagers" in Tieniu Village. They come from more than 20 provinces and cities across the country, including senior executives of multinational companies, various designers, marketing experts, financial experts, former media people, etc.

Why did they choose Tieniu Village? What did their arrival bring to the village?

In 2021, Zheng Songmei, who worked in a multinational company, officially quit her job and came to Tieniu Village to participate in the construction of the village.

"I originally planned to come back after retirement, but the changes in my life made me want to visit my friends first. This made me stay here." Zheng Songmei said that, as a "new villager", he is an older one. There are many "post-90s" and even "post-00s" young people coming to Tieniu Village.

Zheng Songmei thinks that she has started a new life, "I didn't cook before, and I know little about the source of food materials. Here I learned about life itself again."

From village volunteers to the legal person of the village enterprise consortium "Ugly and Beautiful Tieniu" company, Zheng Songmei applied her past experience in managing the world's top 500 enterprises to the development of Tieniu Village. In particular, she is familiar with the work related to investment management and government affairs.

There is a wall in the Ugly and Beautiful Living Hall in Tieniu Village, on which there are portraits and introductions of every "new villagers" who have found new jobs in the village.

"Everyone has their own strengths. The 'New Villagers' are divided into seven sectors according to their specialties, including education, public welfare, culture and art, and ecological agriculture. They apply their professional strengths to the rural construction of Tieniu Village, and work together to create a fertile land for more people to take root in the countryside." Zheng Songmei introduced the "Niu" people in each sector. Among them, Shi Guoping, the chief planner of Tieniu Village and the first "new villager", is an unavoidable person.

From receiving the invitation from the government of Xilai Town, Pujiang County, to taking over the reconstruction project of the old village committee of Tieniu Village, Shi Guoping and his team completed the transformation from urban architects to rural planners, and created a number of new models of "farm style, block style, paradise style, manor style" Chengdu forest. They promoted the transformation of traditional agriculture into new ecological agriculture, and the transformation of traditional forest into new consumption experience scenes, and attracted people from different fields to participate in investment, construction and implementation of Tieniu Village by relying on the project.

The raking citrus is a pillar fruit industry in Pujiang County. In 2021, Shi Guoping's team will rent a 9 mu raking citrus plantation in Tieniu Village, introducing the concept of organic ecological agriculture into Tieniu Village. Later, the village enterprise consortium was established with old villagers, and new and old villagers became "partners" of Tieniu Village. Through the establishment of the "four party cooperation" benefit connection mechanism of "new village enterprises (sellers)+village enterprise consortia (organizers)+professional technical service institutions (technicians)+local farmers (growers)", the organic citrus ecological planting area in Tieniu Village has expanded to 40 mu under the leadership of "new village people".

Many young people came to the village

"I found a new direction for my career here, and more accurately, I began to care about land issues and food security." As a "new villager", Zheng Songmei, the first young person attracted to the village, was her own daughter. She said, "When Xiaomeng was thinking about where she would work, I suggested that she come to the village to have a look. Unexpectedly, she adapted well and found a job she was interested in."

"I studied international relations and always wondered how to explain China to foreigners if I didn't know Chinese villages." On the National Day in 2021, Xiaomeng, who graduated from Edinburgh University in the UK, intended to continue her studies. During the Gap year, she came to Tieniu Village as a volunteer. In this process, she tried procurement, logistics and other work, felt a new world was opened, and decided to stay in Tieniu Village.

During more than a year of living and working in Tieniu Village, Xiaomeng has experienced more job training, such as planning, product design, sales, etc. On January 6, at the "2024 Chengdu Pujiang Citrus Sweet Picking Festival", the reporter saw Xiao Meng and many young people busy with visitor reception, on-site arrangement, ticket check, picking services and other work.

"There were several accidents today, such as the expected doll on the highway." Xiaomeng said, "Revitalizing the countryside", which used to be a news word for her, is now a tangible career, "Meet many interesting people here, work together, learn new knowledge, and re understand life."

Yu Xiaomeng, a colleague from Tieniu Village, is a community and a partner. Cao Binyang is her local partner, and also a local youth who returns home because of such a foreign youth as her.

"Before running a hotpot restaurant in the town, Xiaomeng and several of them often came to eat. They were young people and became friends when they talked." During the conversation, Cao Binyang learned about the changes in Tieniu Village and came back to join the restaurant. Now, he has grown to be the manager of "Tiema Restaurant" and participated in the planning and operation.

"I won't go back to the city again. The most important thing is that I found the relationship between myself and the land here." Cao Binyang believes that it is a cause for "new villagers" to explore the path of ecological recovery, ecological agriculture, industrial transformation, industrial integration, etc. in the process of planting ecological raking citrus, so as to promote the systematic construction of the whole village. "I was originally a young man from the countryside. Returning to the countryside is the best choice."

Many guests came to the village

As of February 23 this year, there were more than 2000 "father and mother of citrus" in the ecological orchard of Tieniu Village, and 12 enterprises have become the co construction enterprises of Agen Ecological Community in Tieniu Village, helping to promote rural ecology together.

On the day of the picking festival, many guests came to the village, including tourists from inside and outside the province, as well as "father and mother of citrus" and media reporters from all over the country, to share the harvest with the new and old villagers of Tieniu Village.

"Please hold out your hands and close your eyes to taste the oranges in your hands. What's the taste difference?" On the day of the Citrus Sweet Picking Festival, next to the ecological orchard, Ye Ke, the chief planting officer of Argan Orchard, led the "Citrus Dad and Citrus Mom" who came to the event to taste and feel the rich taste of ecological planting fruits. Ye Ke said: "The fruit acid is very obvious now, and it is not the best time to taste. It will become more and more delicious after the Spring Festival."

"The 'Citrus Dad and Mother' plan was officially launched on March 27, 2023. Consumers can adopt a tree in Tieniu Village at a cost of 1 yuan a day, 365 yuan a year, and have their own 'Citrus Baby'." Ye Ke told reporters that "Citrus Dad and Mother" are co builders of the ecological orchard, hoping to attract more people to participate in the construction of the Egan ecological community in Tieniu Village in this way.

"Yeke was the practitioner of the first 9 mu ecological citrus orchard. In the first year, red spiders were rampant in the orchard, and all the old villagers said, 'You can't do this'. We have been planting fruits for many years, but we have never seen them grow well without taking medicine." Song Jie, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Xilai Town, began to work in Tieniu Village four years ago, and she witnessed the changes here and the success of an ecological experiment. "Unexpectedly, in the first year, the 9 mu orchard insisted on not applying pesticides, and with the support of professional ecological technology, it harvested 27000 jin of raking citrus, whose purchase price was much higher than that of traditional planting citrus, and sold more than 20 yuan per kilogram. This gave the 'new villagers' great confidence, and also let the old villagers see the value of ecological planting for the first time, and try ecological planting."

"At the beginning, the villagers didn't believe that it was OK not to use pesticides. It was a big change when they came to ask if they could join in ecological planting." This change was particularly prominent in Zhao Guangjin, a villager in Tieniu Village. Originally selling traditional pesticide materials, he not only joined the ecological planting team, but also became a technician of ecological planting in the village.

"New Villagers" set up Ugly Company, and new and old villagers worked together to make ecological planting from the original 9 mu to the current 40 mu.

Xu Bangmiao, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tieniu Village, said that Ugly Company purchased and sold high-quality raking oranges to Shanghai, Shenzhen and other first tier cities at a good price, and developed processed products such as chocolate, fruit wine, rice candy, etc., increasing the experience of picking, farming, research and learning, and realizing the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries. Tieniu Village has also become the demonstration benchmark of the "two alternatives" project in Pujiang County (organic fertilizer instead of chemical fertilizer, green prevention and control instead of chemical control), actively exploring "zero agricultural residue" ecological planting, and vigorously advocating green production methods.

Zhao Lingli, 27, returned to Tieniu Village with her husband soon after graduating from college to help her mother run Chunru Farmyard.

"The 'new villagers', especially the young people from outside, have brought a lot of benefits to the village, introduced a lot of traffic, and my family basically has guests every day. The' new villagers' will organize some activities in the village, invite the old villagers to participate, and promote the integration of new and old villagers." Zhao Lingli said that the young people from Tieniu Village have also come back one after another, and want to do their own business in their hometown. "This year, our family will also carry out ecological planting, so that guests can pick the best citrus."

The story of Tieniu Village is endless. Zheng Songmei told reporters that after Tieniu Village "went out of the circle", other cities and prefectures in Sichuan Province have invited "new villagers" to participate in rural revitalization and replicate successful project experience. At present, she and her team are investigating in Luding County to prepare for the "May Day" activities.

Can Tieniu Village represent the future countryside? Guo Xiaoming: The development of rural industry shows the need for overall talents, that is, to understand both technology, marketing and brand.
