From July 26 to July 30, 2019, more than 30 doctors and teachers from Spain, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and China gathered at the University of Maryland in the United States to officially open and successfully implement the fifth "China Europe Logistics, Informatization, Management and Service Science Doctoral School" (LISSDS) summer school series activities. This summer school is jointly sponsored by Beijing Jiaotong University and Catalonia University of Technology (UPC) in Spain. It is specifically undertaken by the International Research Center for Information Management Theory and Technology (ICIR) of Beijing Jiaotong University and the Robert H. Smith School of Business of the University of Maryland, and is strongly supported by the Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base and the Beijing Key Laboratory of Logistics Management and Technology.

The opening ceremony of the summer school was held at 9 a.m. local time on July 26 at the University of Maryland Business School. Huang Anqiang, associate professor of School of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University, introduced the background and development of the summer school and presided over the opening ceremony. Professor Hua Guowei, associate dean of School of Economics and Management, Professor Zhang Juliang of Department of Logistics Management, Professor Vicenc Fernandez of UPC School of Management, and Professor Eva Gallardo Gallardo attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Professor Hua Guowei, on behalf of the Chinese sponsor, extended a warm welcome to the participants and introduced the disciplinary advantages, historical evolution and development vision of Beijing Jiaotong University and School of Economics and Management. Professor Vicenc Fernandez, on behalf of the foreign sponsor, congratulated the successful opening of this summer school, introduced the learning methods and skills of the doctoral stage to the participating doctors, and put forward ardent expectations.

Professor Zhang Juliang introduced in detail the scientific research strength, cultivation concept, academic research and achievements of Beijing Jiaotong University ICIR Center, and encouraged doctors to pay attention to the development of the center and actively cooperate. Participation in high-end academic exchanges and doctoral research exhibition exchanges is an important feature and content of LISSDS Summer School. On July 27-28, the doctoral students listened to the special lectures given by James M. Tien, academician of the American Academy of Engineering, Michael C. Fu of the University of Maryland, Professor Gabor Bohac of Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Professor Kecheng Liu of Reading University in the United Kingdom.

From July 29 to July 30, the research exchange link of the doctors themselves was launched. Six doctoral students showed their latest research progress and triggered heated discussions. The doctors conducted in-depth discussions on research issues from different cultural perspectives and research scenarios. This summer school will last until August 3.

The China Europe Logistics, Informatization, Management and Service Science PhD Summer School is the specific construction work of the China Europe Engineering Education Alliance "China Europe Logistics, Informatization, Management and Service Science PhD School" undertaken by our school and the Spanish Catalonia Polytechnic University. It is led by the Graduate School of Beijing Jiaotong University and the International Education Exchange Center, Sponsored by the International Research Center for Information Management Theory and Technology (ICIR) of Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base, and Catalonia University of Technology in Spain, it is intended to carry out international cooperation and exchange on this platform, and promote joint cultivation of doctoral students, academic exchange and cooperation among teachers.
