Zhaxika is located in the southeast of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, more than 4300 meters above sea level, more than 600 meters higher than Lhasa. It is an alpine zone with thin air and few people. The land is vast and the material is thin. The vast majority of the 80000 Tibetans living here rely on the government's relief funds to live. The vast majority lack basic health knowledge and have a variety of patients. In Zhaxika Plateau, the biggest threat to Tibetan people's health is infectious disease. Hydatid disease and plague are terrible killers. In contrast, although the incidence of cleft lip and palate is very high here, it has not attracted much attention. Even the parents of children with cleft lip and palate are sad, but few of them are actually treated with dynamic therapy. Tibetans believe in life and death transmigration and karma. The crack on the child's face, in the eyes of parents, may be the retribution of some evil deed in the previous life in this life. They will neither complain nor dislike the child. In addition to seeking consolation from the lamas in the monastery, most of them silently accept the fate of the arrangement. The documentary Zhaxika Smile, jointly produced by CCTV Record Channel and the Smile Train Foundation of America, tells the story of humanitarian assistance for children with cleft lip and jaw in Zhaxika area.
