Software Introduction

Kubernetes (usually called K8s) is an open source container cluster management system from Google Cloud Platform, which is used to automatically deploy, extend and manage containerized applications. The system is based on Docker Build a container scheduling service.

Kubernetes can automatically select a work container for use in a container cluster. Its core concept is Container Pod. For detailed design ideas, please refer to here

Kubernetes is designed by Google and donated to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. It is designed to provide a platform for automatic deployment, expansion and running of application containers across host clusters. It supports a series of container tools, including Docker.

OpenAI explains why ChatGPT and other services fail: K8s circular dependency causes

On December 12, OpenAI updated the service status page, in which it added a review of the accident of ChatGPT, Sora and API service downtime for more than four hours the previous day. OpenAI said that this incident was not caused by a security vulnerability or a new product release, but by an internal system upgrade. OpenAI engineers deployed a new telemetry service in the afternoon of the 11th. However, due to misconfiguration, each node performed a large number of Kubernetes API operations at the same time. Finally, the server was overwhelmed and the control plane crashed. This in turn causes DNS resolution failures, resulting in the inability of services to communicate with each other. In the process ..

Does Kubernetes need to provide a long-term support version (LTS)?

Kubernetes currently follows the "N-2 Support Policy", which means that only the three latest minor versions (N, N-1, and N-2) will receive security and bug fixes, and the release cycle is 15 weeks. Therefore, the support period of a Kubernetes version is usually 14 months (12 months' support period and 2 months' upgrade period). If we compare it with Debian (an operating system project based on its support cycle in many organizations), we will find a direct difference between the two. It can be seen that as an infrastructure project, the iteration cycle of Kubernetes still makes many companies unable to catch up ..
