It can be used to mark data and define data types. It is a source language that allows users to define their own markup language. XML is a subset of Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), which is very suitable for Web transmission. XML provides a unified way to describe and exchange structured data independent of applications or vendors.
How to open an xml file
The easiest way to open an XML file is to use EXCEL table, or Netscape 6 to open an XML document. You can also right-click to select View Source File. When you open an XML document with Netscape 6, the browser will display the root element and child element with colored code.

When you open an XML source, Excel looks for tags for XML style sheets (XSL). XSL describes how the data is displayed. If the tag exists, Excel prompts and selects, or does not apply a style sheet. If you choose to apply an XSL, the XSL specifies how to present the data. The rest of this section is not applicable to the information in this section.
