From May 19 to 22, Beijing time, the 44th World Amateur Go Championship was held in Tokyo, Japan, and the 36th Evening News Cup champion Bai Baoxiang participated in the 8th section on behalf of China. After eight rounds of fierce competition, Bai Baoxiang won the championship with 7 wins and 1 losses. This is his fifth time to win the tournament after 2011, 2016, 2017 and 2022, and is the player who has won the most titles in the World Amateur Go Championship.

Kim Jong sun (South Korea), the champion of the last competition, won the runner up, and Takemitsu (Japan) won the third place. The top three chess players in this competition all have 7 wins and 1 loss, and the three players have each other's wins and losses (in the fifth round, Dasein won over Bai Baoxiang, Jin Zhengshan won over Dasein in the sixth round, and Bai Baoxiang won over Kim Zhengshan in the seventh round). Finally, Bai Baoxiang won the championship with a small score advantage. Bai Baoxiang has won 37 and lost 1 in the five world championships he participated in. This time, it was the only time that he lost to Takayumi Takaki.

Pensachan Sonara (Thailand) and Luo Shengjie (Taipei, China) won the fourth and fifth places respectively.

In the 44th World Amateur Go Championship, Chinese mainland players have won the championship 25 times.
