Mercedes Benz Group AG said that the US Department of Justice had ended its investigation on exhaust emissions and would not bring a lawsuit against the German automaker.
Mercedes Benz, headquartered in Stuttgart, said in an email statement on Saturday: "We can confirm that the Ministry of Justice has ended its investigation and will not bring a lawsuit against Mercedes Benz."
Renata Jungo Bruengger, a member of the Mercedes Benz management board, said that the decision was "another step towards legal certainty related to various diesel lawsuits". U.S. Department of Justice officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment Saturday outside working hours.
In April 2016, the company's share price hit its biggest decline in more than three months. At that time, the company announced that the US Department of Justice had asked it to review its certification and admission procedures related to US exhaust emissions.
The company said that it was fully cooperating with the authorities, and the class action lawsuit of the United States accusing some of its cars of violating emission standards was "groundless".
