Recently, the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association released the 2024 White Paper on the Development of China's Satellite Navigation and Location Services Industry (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper"). The white paper shows that the total output value of China's satellite navigation and location services industry will reach 536.2 billion yuan in 2023, with a year-on-year growth of 7.09%. Among them, the market for high-precision applications has further expanded. The revenue related to high-precision location services has reached 21.4 billion yuan, with an annual compound growth rate of more than 25%. The total sales volume of various high-precision application terminals is close to 2.8 million units/set. The trend of popularization and scale of high-precision applications is more obvious.

At present, high-precision applications are gradually evolving towards universality and standardization, and have become the development focus of major global satellite navigation systems. The white paper points out that the value of accurate time and space data generated by Beidou is increasingly valued, and the application and industrialization of Beidou are also ushering in unprecedented new opportunities.

Yang Changfeng, chief designer of the Beidou Satellite Navigation System Project and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, once pointed out that "high-precision spatio-temporal intelligence maps the real world and the digital world with high precision and high dynamic precision through the effective connection of time and space."

According to the latest data of Qianxun Location, as of May 2024, the daily service times of Beidou's high-precision space-time services have exceeded 10 billion, the global cumulative access to more than 2 billion intelligent devices, and the services cover more than 230 countries and regions around the world. It has formed an autonomous and controllable technological closed-loop of space-time intelligence, which supports the further in-depth application of Beidou system to all walks of life.

The public application of Beidou has achieved outstanding results and is becoming the standard configuration of smart phones, wearable devices and other consumer products. Mainstream smart phone manufacturers at home and abroad, including Huawei, Xiaomi, Apple and others, support Beidou. According to the white paper, 276 million smartphones will be shipped in China in 2023, accounting for about 98% of Beidou's positioning support.

In addition, some flagship models of brands also have "high-level functions" such as Beidou high-precision positioning, Beidou short message, satellite communication, etc.

The white paper shows that based on the high-precision lane level navigation function of Beidou, it supports the lane level early warning broadcast of traffic events. By the end of 2023, it has supported the use of roads in more than 99% of cities and towns in China. "Lane level navigation" has realized the deep application of Beidou, and the positioning accuracy has evolved from road level to lane level, bringing revolutionary changes to people's navigation experience.

In addition, the "dynamic traffic light countdown" and light waiting status functions based on the core computing power of Beidou have covered millions of traffic lights nationwide, with more than 2 billion seconds being counted every day. The annual sales of domestic smart phones supporting the Beidou-3 short message function have reached millions.

In the field of smart cars, the white paper points out that 2023 will be the year when smart cars will be rapidly commercialized. With the landing of L2 level auxiliary driving scale, L3 level access and road pilot acceleration, Beidou high-precision positioning terminal, as the only equipment on the vehicle that can provide absolute position and precise time, has become an indispensable part of the automatic driving system. The high-accuracy vehicle positioning combined with high-accuracy map mode has realized batch application.

In addition, the two wheeled vehicles widely used by the public in China, including shared bicycles and electric vehicles, have a large market scale and are one of the important markets for the application of Beidou. According to the white paper, the number of bike sharing users exceeded 340 million, and the average daily order volume exceeded 47 million. The expansion of the market scale of these application scenarios has driven the steady growth of industrial related output value, which has become the main engine for the development of China's satellite navigation and location services industry. The enabling effect of spatio-temporal information is becoming increasingly prominent.

Yu Xiancheng, president of China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association, said that since the Beidou-3 system was put into global service in 2020, the Beidou industry has entered a new stage of development. At present, the country is promoting "Beidou+" integration innovation and "+Beidou" time-space application, which will strongly promote the intelligent development in all fields and the formation of new quality productivity. While empowering the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, it also injects new and powerful power into the high-quality development of China's digital economy.
