With the release of financial reports in the first quarter of 2024, the performance of the three major operators has again become the focus of the market. Whose income is better?  

First look at the data: In the first quarter of 2024, China Mobile realized an operating revenue of 263.707 billion yuan, an increase of 5.2% over the same period last year; China Telecom's operating revenue was 134.495 billion yuan, up 3.7% year on year; China Unicom's operating revenue was 99.496 billion yuan, an increase of 2.3% over the same period last year.

analysis: The operating revenue of China Mobile in the first quarter was nearly 30 billion yuan more than that of China Telecom and China Unicom combined, even more than that of the same period last year. It can be seen that the status of China Mobile's "first brother" is still intact, and its performance is still firmly ahead of the other two operators.

In addition, although the performance of the three major operators still showed a growth trend in the first quarter of this year, in fact, the growth rate of the three major operators has slowed down significantly compared with each other. In the first quarter of 2023, China Mobile's overall operating revenue will be 250.746 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 10.31%; China Telecom's operating revenue was 129.753 billion yuan, up 9.4% year on year; China Unicom's operating revenue was 97.222 billion yuan, up 9.2% year on year; It can be seen that in 2023, the growth rate of the three major operators is not much different, but in 2024, there will be a significant decline, even China Mobile, which has always been in the lead, will decline by 5 percentage points.

Why does this happen? There may be the following reasons.

First, users' demand for broadband and traffic is gradually saturated, and the existing market share of demand is gradually stable.

The second is the intense market competition. As the mobile business market gradually becomes saturated and the business is highly homogeneous, in order to compete for market share, operators may adopt more aggressive marketing strategies, such as price reduction and promotion, which to some extent compressed the profit space and led to a slowdown in revenue growth.

Third, emerging businesses are still being cultivated. Although operators are actively deploying 5G, cloud computing, big data and other emerging businesses, which have high growth potential, they are still in the initial stage, and have not been able to fully offset the impact of the slowdown of traditional business growth.
