The latest data from Counterpoint shows that global PC shipments have declined for eight consecutive quarters due to slowing demand and inventory adjustment, with a year-on-year growth of about 3% in the first quarter of 2024. The growth of shipments in the first quarter of 2024 is achieved on the basis of a relatively low level in the first quarter of 2023. In 2024, the shipment volume in the next few quarters will continue to grow, with a year-on-year growth of 3%.
Lenovo's PC shipments in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 8% over the same period last year. The brand successfully regained 24% of the market share, compared with 23% in the first quarter of 2023. The market shares of HP and Dell are 21% and 16% respectively. The performance of these two companies is still flat, waiting for the North American market to promote the growth of shipments in the next few quarters. Apple's shipment performance is also very flexible, and the 2% growth is mainly supported by M3 basic models.
During the pandemic, the market demand of enterprises and consumers soared, the inventory level normalized, and the replacement cycle ended. Against this background, AI laptops may become a catalyst for the recovery of overall PC shipments in 2024. As semiconductor enterprises prepare to launch higher TOPS socs, it is expected that from the second half of 2024, major enterprises will take AI PCs as their main products.
