It is reported that NoC, as the core basic IP of server chips facing the data center in addition to the high-performance processor core, At present, there is only one ARM supplier in the world, and the use of RISC-V processor core is limited to a certain extent

Since the establishment of the project, the Open Core Institute has successfully completed the development and verification of NoC IP supporting 64 core interconnection after 18 months of intense development. At present, The NoC IP deliverable enterprise is evaluated , further promoting the development of RISC-V ecology.

Therefore, the Open Core Institute can provide the most important core basic IP for the CPU chip of the data center server, "Xiangshan" high-performance processor core and "Wenyuhe" large-scale on-chip Internet This is also the first time in the world that the CPU chip of the data center server can be built based on the open source project.

Kaixin Institute is committed to accelerating the integration of RISC-V innovation chain and industrial chain, striving to initially build an open source chip technology system by 2025, and become the world's leading RISC-V industrial ecological center by 2030.

Bao Yungang, a researcher of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the main person in charge of the "Xiangshan" RISC-V open-source processor, said:

The high-end processor chip contains two core IPs: one is the CPU core responsible for computing, such as the V1/N1/V2/N2 core of ARM Neoverse series; The other is the NoC (Network on Chip), which connects tens of hundreds of processor cores. It can be seen as a bridge within the chip, such as the ARM CMN-600/700 series IP.

The "Xiangshan" high-performance RISC-V processor core is the first class IP, which has developed to the third generation, and its performance can reach ARM N2. It was just released in Zhongguancun Forum some time ago. However, for the second type of NoC IP, especially the single chip hundred core NoC, currently only ARM CMN series are available in the world (there is no instance of the Arteris FlexNoC series), The price of a single authorization is up to hundreds of millions of yuan, and there are many restrictions

It is very difficult to design and implement a large-scale NoC (especially cache consistency), which has become a weak point of the global RISC-V ecosystem. This changed the situation. In 2022, Kaixin Institute launched the first generation NoC "Wenyuhe" project, which was led by teacher Wang Qi and was supported by many enterprises. After 18 months of research and development, we have successfully completed the development and verification of NoC IP that supports 64 core interconnection, and released it online on May 21. About 100 engineers from more than 20 RISC-V chip enterprises across the country participated, attracting widespread attention.

Now the research and development work of the second generation NoC has also started , will form closer adaptation and optimization with "Xiangshan" core, and better support the interconnection and expansion of AI accelerator. We look forward to more enterprise support and participation.
