On May 22, IT Home reported that the Unicode characters on Apple's iOS, Android, Windows and other platforms will be updated regularly according to the update of the Unicode Alliance standard, and new emoji emoticons will be added to iPhone, iPad, Mac and other devices.
The Unicode Consortium today launched the test review of Unicode 16, which will continue until July 2. Unicode 16 contains some new emoticons, such as the face with black eyes, fingerprints, bare trees, turnips (pronounced w ú j ī ng), harps, shovels, and graffiti/water splashes.
It is worth mentioning that major mobile phone manufacturers generally need several months to create corresponding images for new emoticons, so we may have to wait until the release of iOS 18 to see these new emoticons, and the emoticons seen by various manufacturers and platforms may be different.
Take Apple for example, the last time Apple introduced new emoticons was in the iOS 17.4 update released in March 2024, including lime, edible brown mushrooms, phoenix, broken chain, shaking and nodding. It is speculated that Apple may add the above new characters around March 2025 (the time point of iOS 18.4 release).
