On May 20, IT Home reported that a recent auction on eBay attracted the attention of Apple fans. It was said that it was an early Apple employee ID card numbered 10 and a hand-painted map of the early Apple campus. At first glance, it seems convincing, but careful netizens soon found the doubt. In the end, a person who has the most right to speak came forward and exposed the fraud.

This person is Chris Espinosa, Apple's longest serving employee. He is Apple's "No. 8 employee". Espinosa joined Apple at the age of 14 , worked as a BASIC programmer, and has only had a short separation experience since then. He made it clear that the certificate and map were forged.

Espinosa has an absolute say in the authenticity of the map, because it is said that he wrote the map. But he denied this, and pointed out that he has always used a specific type of notebook to draw, and the map paper in the auction is obviously not that kind of material.

In addition, Espinosa also listed four doubtful points of forged documents:

  • Sherry Livingston is not in the picture;

  • This was not taken with Polaroid camera with flash light;

  • The laminated size is completely wrong;

  • The font is computer font, not the font hit by the IBM Selectic Orator typewriter ball.

Despite the doubts, the seller insisted that the goods were real, and even took out a purchase receipt allegedly from the German Red Cross. The receipt was also full of holes. German netizens pointed out the mistakes in the receipt and confirmed their suspicion of forgery.

After being thoroughly exposed, the seller panicked and fabricated a strange story about buying the lot from other places. Unfortunately, when the truth came to light, the auction was over, and someone bought the fake for 946 dollars (note from IT Home: currently about 6840 yuan). However, since eBay has already taken the auction off the shelves, the buyer should be able to get a refund.
