As the first international A-class auto show in China this year, Beijing Auto Show is regarded as the wind vane of domestic and even global auto technology development. It is understood that 117 world's first models, 41 concept cars and 278 new energy models will be displayed in this exhibition. In addition, more than 1500 exhibitors gathered in the exhibition hall with a total exhibition area of 230000 square meters; 163 press conferences will be held, setting a new record.
At present, the wave of electrification and intellectualization has swept the automotive industry, and all-round competition between independent brands and joint-venture brands, as well as between new energy vehicles and traditional fuel vehicles has begun. According to the data of the Passenger Car Association, in 2023, the total sales volume of domestic cars with independent brands will reach 11.28 million, accounting for 52%. This is the first time in the history of China's automobile industry that the sales volume of independent brands has exceeded that of overseas brands. In the first quarter of this year, the sales share of self owned brands continued to increase, with the cumulative share reaching 55%, 5.4 percentage points higher than the same period last year.
At this year's Beijing Auto Show, dongfeng motor 、 SAIC Group 、 Chang'an Automobile BAIC Group, Geely Automobile BYD Automobile, Chery Automobile Sailux And other self owned brands were unveiled to focus on the latest technologies and products. In terms of new forces of car building, brands such as Xiaomi, Weilai, Xiaopeng, Ideals, Zero Run, Nezha Auto entered the arena with high profile. Aveta, Deep Blue, Zhiji, Haobo, Jiyue, Feifan and other brands born from traditional car companies also appeared with new products.
With the continuous innovation of AI technology, well-known enterprises such as Huawei and Xiaomi have further broken the circle of smart cars, completely opening up consumers' imagination of smart cars. Specifically, Weilai Automobile made a collective appearance with its eight 2024 models; The ideal car appeared with the newly released ideal L6 and other models; The new Avita 11 model was officially released and launched; SAIC's Zhiji L6 made its debut; Krypton officially released the vast - M architecture, based on which the first family travel product, Krypton MIX, made its debut in the world. In addition, Xiaopeng Auto made an appearance with its Xiaopeng X9, G6, G9 and P7i models, and announced the global debut of AI Tianji System; The 800kW liquid cooled S5 ultra fast charge will be fully upgraded in the third quarter of this year. "A new brand MONA will be launched in June this year," said He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xiaopeng Auto.
In addition to the above pure tram models, the hybrid model of our own brand has become one of the highlights of this auto show. Among them, the new model, Zero Running C16, made its debut during the Beijing Auto Show; BYD Leopard 5, Leopard 8, Leopard 3 concept car SUPER 3 and concept sports car SUPER 9 also made a collective appearance at this Beijing Auto Show.
It is understood that hybrid models have become an incremental market for more and more vehicle enterprises to "bet" on. According to the data of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in 2023, the annual sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles in China will be 2.804 million, an increase of 84.7% year on year. Zhang Yongwei, vice chairman and secretary-general of the China Electric Vehicle Hundred Talents Association, previously predicted that in 2024, China's plug-in hybrid vehicles, including incremental programs, will contribute one-third of the sales of new energy vehicles.
In addition to their own brands, multinational automobile enterprises have also launched an "electric counterattack". At this year's Beijing Auto Show, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, Honda, Toyota, General Motors, Ford and other international mainstream auto brands were present, focusing on the latest intelligent and electric achievements.
Among them, Mercedes Benz made its debut with a number of global or China's first models and forward-looking digital technology - the new Mercedes Benz pure electric G-class off-road vehicle made its global debut; The new Mercedes Benz G 500 and the new Mercedes AMG G 63 also made their debut at the auto show. In terms of BMW brand, the newly released new electric MINI Aceman and MINI Cooper were exhibited for the first time. Audi brand has brought a new pure electric SUV model - Q6L e-tron, which is based on the PPE platform.
Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the Passenger Car Association, believes that the 2024 Beijing Auto Show is not only a stage to showcase new technologies and new products of the industry, but also a good opportunity to build brand image and improve sales.
