According to a report on the website of South Africa's Daily Business Daily on May 22, Dan Malokan, CEO of Eskom, said that in order to improve the overall performance of the generator sets and avoid the implementation of power load shedding, Eskom had to adjust its 2035 strategy, which included postponing the decommissioning of coal-fired power plants, but it would consider taking possible interventions on the entire power generation unit to reduce emissions. Eskom's Board of Directors has approved to postpone the decommissioning of Camden, Hendrina and Grootvlei power stations to 2030. Previously, it was planned that Grootvlei and Camden power stations would be completely decommissioned by 2025, and Hendrina power stations would be completely decommissioned by 2026. In addition, Malokan said that Eskom is still committed to investing in new renewable energy capacity and achieving carbon emission reduction targets, contributing to the realization of South Africa's international climate commitments.
