In the outpatient service, we often encounter patients with postpartum lumbar pain, especially mothers who have pain relief during childbirth or after caesarean section, and most mothers believe that their lumbar pain is caused by anesthesia given by anesthesiologists. In fact, it wronged the anesthesiologist.

Through our years of clinical experience in diagnosis and treatment, although these mothers have many reasons for low back pain, there are two main reasons. One is lumbar muscle strain, and the other is lumbar disc herniation.

Lumbar muscle strain is the most common during October pregnancy, especially in the late pregnancy, when a mother to be carries a baby weighing several kilograms every day on her abdomen, it will cause lumbar muscle strain over a long period of time. In addition, mothers often hold children and feed them after childbirth, which will aggravate lumbar muscle strain and lead to low back pain. Coincidentally, during caesarean section, the anesthesiologist usually punctures and injects the puerpera's waist and back, so some mothers will think that their low back pain is caused by the anesthesiologist's anesthesia. In fact, in most cases, it is not the fault of the anesthesiologist, but long-term waist fatigue.

Relaxation of ligaments is easy to cause lumbar disc herniation. During pregnancy, the increase of progesterone will cause relaxation of body ligaments. Pregnant women bend more often, which is easy to lead to lumbar disc herniation, thus causing low back pain. This kind of low back pain is often accompanied by leg pain, radiating pain to a part of the leg. This kind of low back pain is not caused by anesthesia of anesthetists, but also related to long-term bending and strain.

How to avoid and reduce low back pain after delivery? Generally, the following aspects need attention:

1. Avoid sitting for a long time, and put a cushion on your back when sitting;

2. When holding a child, straighten your waist or sit against it. At the same time, take a rest after holding the child, and avoid bending down to lift heavy objects;

3. Frequently practice waist straightening;

4. Hot compress or physiotherapy for lumbosacral pain;

5. Avoid getting cold at the waist;

6. In case of severe pain, you can take orally Voltalin or Fenbid to relieve pain.

By doing the above, we can usually avoid or reduce low back pain and gradually achieve cure. If repeated low back pain cannot be alleviated, or even leg pain, it is recommended to go to the spinal surgery clinic or the orthopedic doctor who specializes in spinal diseases to see if it is caused by other reasons, so as to obtain timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment.
