The founding meeting of the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage Protection of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 349) was held in the Palace Museum on the 13th.

Li Qun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, said that the establishment of the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage Protection of the International Organization for Standardization and the settlement of the secretariat in the Palace Museum provided a valuable opportunity and broad stage for the progress of cultural heritage protection.

The Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage Protection of the International Organization for Standardization was proposed by China and officially approved in March 2024. It is the first technical committee established by the International Organization for Standardization in the field of global cultural heritage protection since its establishment in 1947. The establishment of the committee is an important breakthrough in China's international standardization strategy in the field of cultural heritage protection. The committee aims to further consolidate the global consensus on cultural heritage protection, share advanced and applicable technologies and best practice experience in cultural heritage protection through international standardization of terminology, technology, materials and equipment in the process of cultural heritage monitoring, assessment, protection and restoration, jointly improve the capacity and level of cultural heritage protection, and give full play to standards in promoting civilization exchange and mutual learning Promote the important role of human common values.

The International Academic Seminar on Standardization of Cultural Heritage Protection was held at the same time. Representatives from more than 50 cultural heritage and standardization institutions including China, the United States, Italy, Saudi Arabia and the European Union attended the meeting.
