It was learned from Hebei Forestry and Grass Bureau that on May 17, when Hebei Radio and Television Station and Hebei Forestry and Grass Bureau were filming a program in Baiyangdian Wetland, six strange big birds were photographed. At first glance, they look black, but under the sun, their feathers are colorful and very beautiful. Experts confirmed that the bird is a national first-class key protected animal, the colored ibis.

According to reports, the place where the colored ibis appeared was near the entrance of Tanghe River in Baiyangdian. Some of them play on the water, some plunge their beaks into the water to find food, and some comb their feathers with their beaks, which is very leisurely and comfortable.

Colored ibis is a close relative of crested ibis, known as the "oriental gem". Its feathers will shine with colorful metallic luster in the sun, and it mainly lives in shallow lakes, marshes and other freshwater waters. The Red Book of China's Endangered Animals once declared that the colored ibis were extinct in China. Although the bird is distributed in Hebei Province, it is rare to find 6 birds at one time.

In recent years, Hebei Province has continuously strengthened the protection of wild animals and plants and their habitats, increasing the number of rare wild animals and plants, establishing a rescue system with 10 shelters as the core, defining and announcing four important migration routes for the first batch of wild animals, and strengthening the protection and restoration of nine national important habitats for terrestrial wild animals in the province. Hebei Province has demarcated 9 bird habitats in Baiyangdian and carried out the construction of 2 bird islands. (Reporter Cao Zhi, Correspondent Yao Weiqiang)
