Developed countries have a dominant position in flower trade. Many modes of flower production coexist in the world. Flower production in developed countries is specialized, industrialized and modernized, and great progress has been made in the research of new variety breeding, postharvest physiology and technical treatment. Flower production is specialized, industrialized and computerized, and products are developed to new, high and excellent aspects. High and new technologies are widely used in flower production, The flower industry in the world has shown a trend of transfer to developing countries. Since the reform and opening up in China, flower production has increased year by year, but there is an imbalance in regional development, and the commercialization of large-scale flower industry has just started. In the future, the flower industry will further develop and utilize wild flower resources, change the small and comprehensive state, make rational layout, make products high-quality, intensive operation and local characteristics.

Overall development of China's flower industry In recent years, China's flower industry has developed very rapidly. The planting area and sales volume of flowers have continued to rise. The annual average growth of flower output value over the past 20 years is about 30%. In 2007, the planting area of flowers in China was 7500300 hm2, accounting for about 1/3 of the total planting area of flowers in the world. It has become the world's largest flower production base, In 2007, the national flower sales reached 61.37 billion yuan, and the export volume was about 328 million dollars [8]. Therefore, China occupies an important position in the pattern of world flower production and trade.

The flower industry is a green sunrise industry integrating economic benefits, social benefits and ecological benefits, and labor-intensive, capital intensive and technology intensive "three in one". China has prominent advantages in developing the flower industry, which is of great significance for adjusting the agricultural planting structure, improving farmers' income, and meeting people's living needs. In recent years, China's flower industry has developed rapidly and has become the world's largest flower production base. However, there are a series of problems, such as small production scale, low degree of specialization, lack of varieties and technologies with independent intellectual property rights, lack of brand products with regional characteristics, insufficient standardization of production technology quality system, low quality of flower products, imperfect flower circulation system, lack of supporting facilities and products, and further strengthening of flower industry management. In this regard, the Chinese Academy of Engineering has put forward a series of targeted suggestions.  

The goal that China's flower industry should strive for is not to expand the cultivation area, but to adjust the product structure, increase the scientific and technological content, increase the output value, expand the market, and improve the production efficiency.
