What is the influence of social media on friendship?

Well, I reckon that it causes double-edged sword effect on friendship. On one hand, social media closes the gap among friends who are physically distanced from each other. You know, this article is from Laokaoya website, with an APP like Webo, Facebook and so forth, people who haven’t been together for ages can be kept updated about their daily lives, which at least strengthens the social bonds. However, there’re occasions where people are quite addicted to it and thus be alienated from real-world interactions. And, that is quite detrimental to the friendship.

I think social media has a double-edged sword effect on friendship. On the one hand, social media can bring friends who haven't met for many years closer to each other. Through applications like Weibo and Facebook, people can tell others about their lives. In this way, at least social ties are strengthened. However, it also happens that people are too addicted to social media and therefore lose touch with the real world interaction. This is harmful to friendship.
