IELTS Oral Part 2 Topic Card: Describe an important skill which cannot be learned at school

Ideas: The following ideas are for your reference. I hope you can write your answers according to your real experience.

Obviously, we have to avoid all the things that can be learned in school. Then we can ask ourselves, what did we learn in school? (Some people don't learn anything  )The correct way to open this question should be to eliminate all the curriculum categories in the 9-year compulsory education+high school education+higher education. In another way, what we should think about is what practical skills we have learned outside school? A few days ago, I heard that local middle school students in Beijing mentioned a social practice activity organized by their school, called "Learning Agriculture", that is, going to the suburbs of Beijing to learn how to farm and raise pigs from farmers. Now, a large part of people, including Xiao Bian, are still unable to recognize the crops in the fields :!: but, at least I’m working on it.

The following is the reference answer given by the old roast duck editor according to the specific question requirements:

Describe an important skill which cannot be learned at school

You should say:

What the skill is

Why it cannot be learned at school

Why it is important

Explain how we learned it

Speaking of a skill that is not taught in schools, I want to talk about the skill of cell phone film.

Speaking of an important skill that cannot be learned at school, I would like to say something about applying cell phone screen protectors.

I used to try to make the cell phone sticker more perfect, but I always failed.

I was always struggling to put on the screen protectors perfectly because I had never managed to do it for a single time.

It happened that I met a relative who was doing a small business in Guangzhou Computer City during the Spring Festival. He also engaged in some mobile phone film business. Therefore, when he visited my home that time, he taught me how to apply the film without leaving any dust or bubbles.

Coincidently, I met a relative of mine during the spring festival holiday who has been working in Guangzhou computer market doing some small business including the screen protectors. So, when he dropped by, he taught me how to do it without leaving any blemish or bubbles on the screen.

At the beginning, he asked me to watch a teaching video uploaded by someone on Youku to get familiar with the main operating steps. After watching it, he asked me some questions to check how much I understood. Then I started my first attempt, during which he gave me guidance throughout. My relative really looks like an expert. It took me about half an hour to master this skill. The moment I learned it, I felt a sense of achievement.

At first, he let me watch a teaching video clip which was posted on Youku to be familiar with the main procedures. This article is from Laokaoya website. Do not copy or repost it. Later, he asked me some questions to kind of diagnose how much I grasped it. Then, he gave me some guidance when I had the first shot. He looked really like an expert of it. It took me roughly half an hour to get the hang of it. The moment I nailed it, I felt an overwhelming sense of achievement.

It's almost impossible for me to learn such a skill in school. Because the school never encourages us to learn any courses that have nothing to do with the school's academic courses, such as mathematics, physics and chemistry. Because these academic courses are required for the college entrance examination. I really think our education system needs to be slightly adjusted. Why do I think this skill is important? Because it not only exercises our practical ability, but also helps us save money, doesn't it? Maybe you are the next one to become rich by sticking the film.

This kind of skill was really something that I couldn’t possibly learn in school, because our teachers and the school didn’t encourage us or even gave us a chance to get to learn any subjects except for those academic courses like Math, Physics, Chemistry that were about to be examined in the College Entrance Examination.  I really hope our education system could have a little bit change on this. The reason why I think this kind of skill is quite essential is that it not only practiced our hands-on skills but is really money-saving, right? Maybe you will become another millionaire by doing this job.
