Spoken IELTS Part 2 Topic Card: Describe a piece of technology (not computer related) you like to use

Ideas: The following ideas are for your reference. I hope you can write your answers based on your own experience.

It may be because in the exam, people will answer the computer when they encounter technology related topics. This time British Council specifically stated in the title that this technology cannot be related to computers. Fortunately, we are in an era of technology explosion. Besides computers, there are many interesting topics to talk about. Among them, intelligence is the most easily associated mobile phone (smart phone), which can be used for taxi, payment, games, voice, etc. Of course, we can also choose a smaller topic, such as WeChat or Alipay. The former realizes the function of sending voice, while the latter opens the era of mobile payment. In addition, we can also talk about some new gadgets, such as voice recognition speakers, scales that can detect body fat, and only bracelets.

Describe a piece of technology (not computer-related) you like to use

You should say:

What the technology is

When it was invented

What it is used for

How do you feel about it

The technology I want to tell you is the automatic driving system of cars. It means that road vehicles no longer need people to act as their own drivers, but can decide the driving speed, route and whether to brake according to the road conditions.

The technology I am going to tell you is the autonomous car, which enables vehicles on the road to drive themselves and may turn the term ‘driver’ into history. The cars, not the human, will decide the speed, travel routes and whether to press the brakes.

This technology has existed in people's imagination for a long time. Many science fiction novels describe vehicles that do not need human driving. But until recently, this technology gradually matured and began to be applied in real life. Not long ago, China's largest Internet company Baidu experimented with its newly developed driverless cars on the roads normally used in Beijing, while the Netherlands decided to open a driverless bus line in 2020.

This technology has been in human’s mind for a long time. There are many science fictions depicting future transportation systems without drivers on them. But it was nothing more than a fantasy until recently. With the breakthrough of other technologies, we finally see the possibilities of a driverless transportation system. This article is from Laokaoya website. Do not copy or repost it. Last month, Baidu, one of the biggest companies in China, tested its autonomous car on the busy road in Beijing, and Netherland decided to introduce a driverless bus route in 2020.

This technology will completely change human traffic conditions. Procedures will not be affected by emotions, will not be tired, and will not violate traffic rules. It may even completely eliminate traffic accidents and gradually eliminate traffic lights. Just imagine that after people sit in the car, they will not have to worry about driving. We can watch a movie, drink some wine, or talk with friends, and then we can reach our destination. What a wonderful scene it will be.

This technology will bring a radical change to human’s transportation system. Cars adopted autonomous systems will not be affected by human emotions, not get tired for driving too long, and never break the traffic laws. It may eradicate traffic accidents and gradually eliminate traffic lights because it does not need one. Imagine that, when you get into a car, you can watch a movie, chat with your friends or have some drink, waiting for the car to reach your destination. During the journey, the last thing you need to worry about is driving. What a fantastic future.
