How to say hello to the IELTS speaking test at noon

Greeting the examiner is an essential process in the IELTS speaking test. Although there will be no extra points if you do well, if you do poorly, you will probably leave a bad first impression on the examiner, and it will take a lot of effort to reverse it later.

Generally speaking, good morning and good afternoon are enough to deal with most situations. But some students are very serious. What should I do if my oral exam is arranged at noon?

The main reason for such problems lies in the different descriptions of time between China and the West. For us Chinese people, the morning generally refers to 7:00 to 10:00 or 11:00 in the morning. From 11 o'clock to about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, it is noon for eating and rest. From 2:00 to 6:00, it is basically classified as afternoon. So we will have a special way of greeting, "Good afternoon".

But in the English environment, it can be called Morning before 12 o'clock, and Afternoon after 12 o'clock. Only 12 o'clock can be called noon/noon, which is expressed by the word noon. Considering that everyone's oral exam is usually not scheduled at 12:00 sharp (after all, the examiners also have to eat), it is totally different to worry about how to say hello at noon. Just use good afternoon or good morning according to the specific time.

Moreover, there is nothing to worry about in case the morning becomes the afternoon or the afternoon becomes the morning due to nervousness. I am so nervous. Generally, the examiner will smile kindly.
