On April 12, under the traction of the cable, the first immersed tube of Guangdong Communications Group's deep and medium channel smoothly moved from the shallow dock area to the deep dock area, laying a solid foundation for the installation of the immersed tube tunnel, and also marking a new stage of the construction of the deep and medium channel project.

The Shenzhen China Channel is a super large cross sea transportation infrastructure integrating "bridge, island, tunnel and underwater communication". The immersed tube tunnel has a total length of 6.8 kilometers, which is connected by 32 pipe joints and a final joint "building block". It is the first two-way eight lane subsea immersed tube tunnel in the world. The first poured E1 pipe joint is a non-standard pipe joint, weighing 60000 tons, which is comparable to the displacement of medium-sized aircraft carriers.

How to horizontally move the "Big Mac" weighing 60000 tons from the shallow dock area to the deep dock area?

In order to successfully complete the horizontal movement of the immersed tube, the builders of the deep and medium channels filled the deep and shallow docks once in advance. A total of 8 high-power water pumps were used for more than 70 hours of continuous construction, and the water storage capacity was 1.5 million cubic meters. Everything is ready. After the completion of outfitting and the installation of GINA waterstop, the E1 pipe joint weighing 60000 tons after concrete pouring, the water level gradually overflows the immersed tube after closing the steel gate in the shallow dock area, and under the traction of the steel cable, it slowly enters the deep dock area. The whole process takes about 50 minutes, and it moves about 100 meters from land to water, shallow dock to deep dock. According to the construction plan, the next step is to carry out the secondary outfitting of E1 pipe joint, and it is expected to start the installation of the first immersed pipe before the end of June.

At present, the construction of the Shenzhen China Channel is progressing smoothly, and all structures are advancing in an orderly manner. The west artificial island is carrying out the construction of buried tunnel and open tunnel in the island; The east artificial island is undergoing the construction of island wall riprap and island body filling; Steel shell fabrication of E1-E3 pipe joint has been completed for immersed tunnel, and the prefabrication work has been carried out in an orderly manner; Lingdingyang Bridge is in the process of excavation of east and west cable towers, west tower cushion caps, west anchorage diaphragm wall and east anchorage foundation pit, and Zhongshan Bridge is in the process of construction of main bridge tower columns and approach bridge substructure.

The Shenzhen China Channel is a major national project during the 13th Five Year Plan period and an important river crossing channel in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The project is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2024. After completion, it will effectively release the pressure of Guangdong's current regional traffic network, promote the industrial interconnection between the east and west sides of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and the efficient allocation of various factors, improve the level of "hard connectivity" and "soft connectivity" in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and promote the deep integration and development of the urban agglomeration in the Greater Bay Area.
