DePhil is a Spaniard who won the gold medal of vault at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He is the only gymnast who defended his title at the 2004 Olympic Games and won the second consecutive Olympic gold medal. He also won the fourth place in floor exercise in Athens. Between the two Olympic Games, he was suspended for three months and deprived of the silver medal he won at the World Championships that year because he was tested positive for marijuana in 2002. At the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, he legally won the runner up again. At the Beijing Olympic Games, DePhil won the silver medal in floor exercise.
