Stanley is the captain of the US men's volleyball team. Since he was selected into the US national team in 2000, he has gradually become the attack core of the team. Stanley has three brothers and two sisters. His father is also an excellent volleyball player who participated in the 1968 Olympic Games. Stanley first participated in the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004. Stanley and his son have also become the first father son soldiers who participated in the Olympic Games in American history.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Stanley led the US team to win the championship against Brazil in the final. This is the first Olympic gold medal of the American men's volleyball team in nearly 20 years. Stanley won three awards, namely, the most valuable player, the best score and the best service.
In 2012, Stanley will compete in the Olympic Games for the third time. As the defending champion, the American men's volleyball team will be impacted by Brazil, Italy, Russia and Poland. The road to defending the championship is not smooth.
