On August 5, Hou Jingwei created on a gourd. Hou Jingwei, a 55 year old man from Siping, Jilin, studied sculpture and pyrography with his family when he was young. After years of painstaking research, he combined relief and pyrography techniques to produce gourd handicrafts that show traditional culture and folk stories through more than ten processes, such as polishing, drafting, carving, branding, and color matching. In 2020, Hou Jingwei was rated as the representative inheritor of Hou's gourd carving and pyrography of Siping's intangible cultural heritage project. He said: "It is hoped that more people will join in the inheritance team of intangible cultural heritage and let Xiaohulu 'tell' more folk stories."
