Beijing Jiaotong University was born from the railway and started from management. Its predecessor was the railway management school founded by the Qing government in 1909. It is the first institution of higher learning in China that specializes in training management talents.
The economics and management discipline of Beijing Jiaotong University started at the beginning of the establishment of the university, and is the discipline with the longest school running history. For more than a century, the development of disciplines has always been mutually confirmed and closely overlapped with the fate of the country and the development of schools. It has been growing through the years and has become increasingly distinctive. In 1996, the school integrated the School of Economics, the Department of Industrial and Building Management Engineering, and the Department of Material Management Engineering to establish the School of Economics and Management. The school entered a new stage of development and became stronger. In 2011, the college was approved by the Ministry of Education as one of the first 17 pilot colleges in China. Since 2018, the college has ranked among the top 10 best business schools in mainland China in Eduniversal's ranking of the world's best business schools. In the recent three rounds of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, the College's three first level disciplines, applied economics, business administration, management science and engineering, have been rated as Class A disciplines, demonstrating a strong comprehensive strength of disciplines. The college will pass EQUIS AACSB, AMBA&BGA are internationally recognized as the 116th business school in the world, the 13th in mainland China, and the third in Beijing. It is also the first business school in China to have passed the three international certifications within one year. It has successfully entered the top 1% of business schools in the world, marking that the school's quality has reached the internationally recognized first-class level.
As the earliest business school in modern China, it has cultivated a large number of talents and management elites for the country for a hundred years. Xu Jing, the pioneer of China's railway transportation economics discipline, Yang Rumei, one of China's first four major accountants, Zhao Chuanyun, a famous railway transportation economics expert in China, are outstanding representatives among them. At present, the college has more than 5500 students, including more than 500 doctoral students, more than 2500 master students, more than 2300 undergraduate students and more than 200 international students.
In recent years, the college has been awarded one national excellent teaching team, three Beijing excellent teaching teams, one national famous teacher and nine Beijing famous teachers. All of the nine undergraduate enrollment majors of the college have been approved as national first-class specialty construction sites. At the same time, the college also has two national characteristic majors, two majors of the national "Comprehensive Professional Reform Pilot Project", one major of key construction in Beijing, and one major passing the evaluation of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development. In 2023, three new majors will be added: digital economy, financial technology and supply chain management. In the past three years, the average rate of further education of undergraduate students of the College has exceeded 60%, and the employment rate of graduates of the College in party and government organs, colleges and universities, scientific research institutions and leading enterprises in various industries has reached 76%.
Since the establishment of the discipline of economics and management, there have been many talents and masters here. Zeng Kunhua, the initiator of the school and the first railway administrator in modern China, Ma Yinchu, a famous economist and demographer in China, and Hu Liyou, the chief professor of Beiping Railway Management College of Jiaotong University, have all taught here. The college has nearly 300 teaching staff, including 233 professional teachers, including 71 professors and 98 associate professors. It is one of the colleges with the largest scale of teachers in similar universities in China. In the faculty team, there are 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 counselor of the State Council, 3 members of the Discipline Review Group of the State Council, 8 members of the Higher Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, and 9 people selected for the national high-level talent project.
After years of development, the college now has four first level disciplines: applied economics, business administration, management science and engineering, and public management. Among them, applied economics, business administration, and management science and engineering have first-class doctoral programs and post doctoral stations, and all professors have been selected as members of the discipline review group of the State Council. It has 1 national key discipline industrial economics, 3 Beijing key disciplines applied economics, management science and engineering, and enterprise management. It has one national high-end think tank "Sustainable Transport Innovation Center", three key research bases of Beijing philosophy and social sciences "Beijing Transport Development Research Base", "Beijing Industrial Security and Development Research Base", and "Beijing Logistics Informatization Research Base", One Beijing Social Science and Natural Science Collaborative Innovation Research Base "Beijing Humanities and Transportation, Science and Technology Transportation, Green Transportation Research Base", one Ministry of Education national and regional research center "Beijing Jiaotong University Central and Eastern Europe Research Center", one Beijing laboratory "National Economic Security Early Warning Project Beijing Laboratory", One Beijing key laboratory "Logistics Management and Technology Laboratory" and one capital high-end think tank "Beijing Comprehensive Transportation Development Research Institute".
The college always aims at the national strategy and industrial development needs, gives full play to its advantages in the economic and management fields, and actively serves the development of national transportation, modern logistics, capital finance, information technology, construction and real estate, tourism health and other industries through intellectual support, talent security and professional services, It will become an important force to support and lead China's industrial development. In the past five years, the annual average scientific research fund of the college has reached nearly 100 million yuan, ranking top among similar colleges in China. Through key research and development programs, the National Natural Science Foundation, the National Social Science Fund and other platforms, the college has provided strong support for major national strategies, major industry needs and major basic theoretical research. Through the channels of national high-end think tanks, People's Daily internal reference, the Ministry of Education's university think tank special issue and other think tanks, we have provided important think tank services to Beijing, central ministries and commissions and other party and government departments, many of which have been approved by central or local leaders.
As an important part of social services, the college has carried out professional business training for a long time, including degree education classes and course refresher classes, enterprise internal training classes, high-end expansion classes, staff continuing education and other professional business training. It has established partnerships with more than 200 enterprises and institutions, and signed strategic cooperation agreements with more than 100 local governments, enterprises and institutions.
The college has established more than 100 international cooperation projects with world-famous universities and "Three Crown" certified business schools, covering short-term, 2+2, 3+1+1 and other forms of exchange projects, joint training projects, degree projects, double doctoral degree projects, and projects of the National Scholarship Council. The projects comprehensively cover undergraduate, master and doctoral students. In 2013, the college set up an international advisory committee among the domestic secondary schools earlier to learn from the advanced experience of world-class business schools and strive to improve the international level of school running and management.
