Shandong is a big marine province. The coasts, harbors and islands here have left the footprints of General Secretary Xi Jinping many times.
In March 2018, during the National Two Sessions, the General Secretary said in the Shandong delegation, "Oceans are a strategic place for high-quality development. We should speed up the construction of world-class marine ports, a sound modern marine industry system, and a green and sustainable marine ecological environment, and make contributions to the construction of a maritime power."
On May 22 this year, the General Secretary went to Rizhao, Shandong Province for an investigation. From a deep-water harbor to a coastal greenway, he was concerned about the sea, a strategic place, and created a magnificent picture of China's sea.

A port, highlighting the "hard core" power
Rizhao City, Shandong Province, located on the coast of the Yellow Sea, is known as the place where "the sunrise on the sea, the dawn shines first". The name "Rizhao" is said to come from this.
It faces Japan and South Korea across the Yellow Sea to the east, Qingdao to the north and Lianyungang to the south. Rizhao Port, a natural deep-water port with wide and deep bay, no freezing and no silting, is bred by its superior geographical location.

Rizhao Port is the first stop of General Secretary Xi Jinping's visit to Shandong.
The port was started in 1982, opened in 1986, opened more than 80 domestic and foreign trade container routes, and is an important transit base for energy and bulk raw materials in the world. The throughput of iron ore, soybeans, petroleum coke, wood chips, logs, coke and metallurgical coal ranks first in China.

Five years ago, four port groups, Qingdao Port, Rizhao Port, Yantai Port and Bohai Bay Port, were integrated to form Shandong Port Group. According to the plan, Shandong will build a development pattern with Qingdao Port as the center, Rizhao Port and Yantai Port as the two wings, Weihai Port, Weifang Port, Dongying Port, Binzhou Port and other ports as the support, and closely cooperate and interact with Tianjin, Hebei, Jiangsu and Liaoning ports.
Last year, the total cargo throughput of the four port groups exceeded 1.7 billion tons, ranking first in the world.

In recent years, the General Secretary has visited the port many times. Why do you attach so much importance to ports? He often talked about it in his research.
In April 2017, the General Secretary talked with the dock workers in Tieshangang, Guangxi, and said that we often said that if we want to be rich, we should build roads first, and if we want to be rich in coastal areas, we should also build ports first.
In January 2019, when he visited Tianjin Port, he pointed out that to develop the economy, the country should be strong, and transportation, especially maritime transportation, should be strong first.

In March 2020, when inspecting Ningbo Zhoushan Port, the General Secretary said that the port is a basic and hub facility and an important support for economic development. He pointed out that Ningbo Zhoushan Port plays an important role in national strategies such as jointly building the "Belt and Road", the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. This is not only a large dry bulk cargo smart green demonstration port supported by the state, but also the world's first open and fully automated container terminal along the shore. The single unit efficiency has been improved by 50%, and the annual carbon emissions can be reduced by more than 9000 tons.

According to Current Politics News Eye, Shandong Port Group also has a team called "Pioneers of China's Smart Ports": "Liangang Innovation Team".
Since its establishment in 2013, under the leadership of Zhang Liangang, this team has solved technical problems, built technical standards, built a fully automated wharf with independent intellectual property rights, and also tackled a number of global technical problems. Ports play a vital role in the national opening strategy. To build ports, manage routes and build a "circle of friends" of ports, Chinese ports are connecting with the world and writing a new chapter of the Maritime Silk Road.

The Rizhao Port visited by the General Secretary is not only the main node of the economic corridor of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge, but also an important hub of the "Belt and Road". Two thousand kilometer heavy haul railways, Wa Ri Railway and Xin He Yan Ri Railway, directly connect the port with the Yellow River basin, the Central Plains and Guanzhong urban agglomeration. The central and western regions and areas along the Yellow River can easily go to sea. Rizhao Port has become an important bridgehead.
Hong Kong prospers and connects the whole world. The rapid development of Chinese ports will provide more solid support and guarantee for the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and the promotion of high-level opening up.

A greenway to guard the Gold Coast
Coastal Ecological City, Oriental Sun City. Blue sky, blue sea and golden beach have become synonymous with sunshine. This is not only the important birthplace of "Longshan Culture", but also the origin of the sun culture in ancient China.
At the second stop of the Rizhao expedition, General Secretary Xi Jinping came to the Sunshine Coast Greenway here.

The Sunshine Coast Greenway starts from Taigong Island Park in the south and ends at Liangchenghekou National Wetland Park in the north, with a total length of about 28 kilometers. The whole line will be open to the public in July 2020.
This is a sunshine coastal zone with multiple functions and vitality, connecting 13 scenic spots along the coastline, such as Wanpingkou Scenic Spot, Ocean Park, Marine Aesthetics Museum and Taohua Island Scenic Spot, as well as 8 coastal folk villages, such as Wangjiazao and Zhangjiatai. There are also viewing platforms, sports trails and tourist recreation squares.

The sound of the waves is the drumbeat of running, and the surging waves are the applause of nature. Walking and running here is just like walking in the air and painting. This greenway connecting nature and humanity has become a happy way for local people and tourists to enjoy a better life. More than 20 cycling, hiking and other events are held here every year.

This greenway is hard won. According to the concept of "relying on the original appearance and on-site design", the greenway construction should not move a black pine, a rock or a beach.
During the construction of this greenway, the abandoned shrimp ponds, wasteland and other ecologically weak areas along the line were also repaired and improved, and the coastal zone was repaired for more than 5000 meters. In 2021, the northern extension project of the greenway has been started. The ecological scenic belt with a total length of more than 60 kilometers will benefit more than 15000 people.

What enlightenment does the Sunshine Coast Greenway bring?
At the Sunshine Coast Greenway, General Secretary Xi Jinping focused on understanding the local situation of strengthening the ecological protection and restoration of the coastline and improving the quality of people's life.
The General Secretary attaches great importance to the marine ecological environment. In July 2013, when he presided over the collective learning of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, he said that the construction of marine ecological civilization should be included in the overall layout of marine development, and that both development and protection, pollution prevention and ecological restoration should be emphasized. He stressed that "the coastline protection and utilization plan should be formulated as soon as possible".
