Recently, the news that Chengdu Metro does not advocate taking escalators to "walk left and stand right" attracted attention. In the past, "going left and standing right" was an initiative of civility and comity, which really provided convenience for people in a hurry. With the deepening understanding of social operation, the potential dangers and damage to facilities that may be caused by "left walking and right standing" are gradually emerging. It is urgent for us to change our habits and find better ways to improve travel efficiency.

In recent years, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Hong Kong and other places have cancelled the "left to go and right to stand" initiative, and some regions also explicitly require passengers to "prohibit walking and running while taking the escalator". "Left walking and right standing" was once considered a civilized behavior, especially in cities with fast running and tight rhythm. "Left walking and right standing" provided a fast and smooth passage for people in rush. "Do not affect others" and "Provide convenience for others" are the original intention of the "Left to Right" initiative, which has also been recognized and affirmed by comiers and acceptors. "I think it's better to lean to one side, especially when commuting, morning rush hour and evening rush hour. Others can pass by by leaning to one side." "The left side is smooth, and we don't need to shuttle around in the crowd, so the speed is faster." It is undeniable that the advocacy of "going left and standing right" has played a role.

However, in daily operation, people gradually find that providing fast access to escalators for people in need may lead to potential safety hazards. On the one hand, the escalator is running at a high speed, which affects the body balance of pedestrians; on the other hand, the steps of the escalator are far higher than those of ordinary stairs, so it is easy to step into the air or trip when walking or running, or even encounter other passengers on the escalator, leading to accidents. In fact, it is unsafe to walk and run on the escalator. Not advocating "left walking and right standing" is not a denial of comity itself, but a stop to walking and running. It should be recognized that safe travel is the most fundamental demand. No matter how efficient the traffic is, how to ensure the punctuality rate will be impossible once there is no safety. For the safety of escalator passengers, it is necessary to take a correct way of riding. It is a safety specification and requirement not to advocate "going left and standing right", just as "fighting in a straight lift car is not allowed". In fact, the maintenance also found that the long-term "left running and right standing" may also lead to the unbalanced operation of the elevator, increasing the possibility of damage.

Perhaps this lack of advocacy requires a period of adaptation, which may also have an impact on people who are busy every day. In fact, on the premise of safety, there are many ways to improve efficiency and punctuality. For example, scientifically and reasonably plan the passenger route according to the space of the subway platform, and optimize and adjust the running speed of the vertical ladder according to the time period. Of course, the punctuality rate of travel efficiency cannot be separated from the traveler's own time concept. If you can start as early as possible and leave plenty of time, you can avoid the rush on the way.

"Left walking and right standing" reflects civilization and comity, but it is not the only way to provide convenience and improve efficiency. On the premise of security, civilization and comity can have more and better methods.
