"We can rest assured that monitor Ye is here!" This is a phrase that people often say when they encounter technical difficulties in a certain part of the southern war zone. The term "squad leader Ye" refers to Ye Shengxue, the first sergeant commander and communication technician of the Ministry.

In the interview, when talking about Ye's promotion, the comrades in arms gave thumbs up one after another. It is said that monitor Ye is an expert. Every time the communication network breaks down, he can solve the problem.

In July this year, Ye Shengxue, who has 26 years of military service, was just awarded the title of "Outstanding Sergeant of the Army". Over the years, Ye Shengxue has mastered more than 10 professional skills such as optical fiber communication, computer network, software development, and system integration. He has participated in more than 30 major military and theater level exercises and training mission support, contributed technical strength to the battle effectiveness construction of the theater with sweat, and was praised as "the 'king of arms' who guards the main battle communication".

As soon as the theater was established, the first important task was to establish the theater joint operations command center. The installation and debugging of the central video transmission system fell to Ye Shengxue.

"The deepest feeling at that time was that the task was very urgent, only one week." Ye Shengxue introduced that the task purchased equipment from five or six manufacturers. According to the conventional process, it should be compatibility testing before entering the site for installation. However, the time was tight and the task was heavy, so we had to install and debug at the same time. The Joint Command Center has high confidentiality requirements, and the manufacturer's technicians cannot enter. The commissioning work can only be explored by Ye Shengxue and his comrades in arms.

In order to solve the problem of compatibility in the shortest time, Ye Shengxue took a different approach and wrote a set of system control code by himself, which is equivalent to using a set of customized software to integrate equipment of different standards. After several upgrades, these codes have been used until now.

It is not easy to install and debug the equipment in a short time. Ye Shengxue also tries to "pick out details". At that time, the manufacturer set a minimum response time of 200 ms for signal switching of a single display screen. If multiple display screen signals are switched at the same time, it will take several seconds to respond, and may cause system crash. Through the transformation of software and hardware, Ye Shengxue has simply reduced the duration of single screen switching by 3/4 and multi screen switching to less than 0.5 seconds. "On the battlefield, every second is a matter of success or failure. As a soldier, serving for war is a matter of seconds." Ye Sheng said.

One attendant had to monitor several systems at the same time, and the data between different network systems were not connected with each other. In case of communication failure, the analysis was very complicated, and everyone felt great pressure on duty.

Can all data be aggregated into one system? Ye Sheng said that we should do whatever we want. However, after some experiments, he found that he "underestimated the enemy": this work is not as simple as imagined. Among them, the biggest difficulty is that all kinds of communication equipment come from different manufacturers, not only the data format is varied, but also the source code of the equipment is not available.

"My hobby is to ponder. The more I don't understand, the more I want to ponder. Once I ponder, I will be fascinated. I must find out the truth." In this case, Ye became stubborn to study hard. Since there is no shortcut, then use the most primitive method - test and grope equipment by equipment. In this way, he opened a data "blind box" for half a year, and finally gathered the data of various network systems into one system. This system has been put into use, so that everyone only needs to pay attention to one computer when on duty, and can also conduct fault self inspection through data association analysis, which has been praised by comrades in arms.

In the eyes of his comrades in arms, Ye was an absolute "academic bully". However, unlike the "learning bully" in everyone's perception, Ye had only a junior high school degree before he entered the army. After becoming a soldier, Ye went to school and found that in order to solve many technical problems, he must improve his knowledge level. So, he used little by little spare time to read and study. Through self-study, he successively obtained secondary school, junior college and undergraduate degrees, and later obtained a master's degree in computer engineering from Sun Yat sen University.

"Don't worry, there will be a day to learn!" This is what Ye said when he went to school. Today, Ye, who is in his 40s, is still eager for new knowledge.

Ye Shengxue is not only eager to learn, but also willing to pass on knowledge to his comrades in arms. During a video conference, a picture fault suddenly appeared on the scene. The staff asked Ye to help. Ye Shengxue checked the lines one by one, solved the fault problems in isolation, and worked overtime to prepare the training plan for everyone to explain.
