Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 30 (Reporter Chen Fang, Zhang Quan) In order to effectively improve the dissemination, guidance and influence of rumor refutation information, let rumors stop at the wise, and let science run ahead of rumors, the "scientific rumor refutation platform" was officially launched in Beijing on August 30.

The platform is sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Health Commission, the Emergency Management Department, the Market Supervision Administration and other departments, guided by the Central Cyberspace Office, and jointly created by the national society, mainstream media, social institutions and scientific and technological workers.

Huai Jinpeng, secretary of the Party Leadership Group and executive vice chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, said at the kick-off meeting that scientific rumor refutation is the aspiration of the people and the requirement of the rule of law, and also an important task to strengthen and improve social governance, which is of great practical significance.

At present, China has more than 800 million Internet users, and the Internet has become an indispensable important space in public life. The spread of online rumors is fast, with a wide range of influence and great social harm. It damages the legitimate rights and interests of the public, disturbs social order, and endangers public security. It requires joint action and scientific governance by the whole society.

516 authoritative experts were invited to settle in the first phase of the expert database of "scientific rumor refutation platform", covering 14 fields such as food safety, nutrition and health, biology, agricultural technology, aerospace, etc. The platform adopts the operation mechanism of "extensive convergence, scientific interpretation, matrix communication, and source blocking" to build a scientific rumor refutation system with complete system, scientific norms, public trust, and efficient operation, and strive to create the most authoritative, timely, collaborative, and accurate national "scientific rumor refutation platform".

Huai Jinpeng said that the Internet is a major progress of human civilization. We should make full use of the Internet to vigorously promote the spirit of science, popularize scientific knowledge, improve the public's ability to know and distinguish rumors and network literacy, and let rumors end in the wise. Scientists are the main force of rumor refutation and the main body of scientific and technological volunteer services. They should make authoritative voice in time in front of online scientific rumors to protect the public interest. The Chinese Association for Science and Technology adheres to the principle of "grand union" and "grand cooperation", works with ministries and commissions, and effectively cooperates with academic societies, media and social institutions to jointly create a scientific platform for dispelling rumors and create a clear cyberspace in a scientific spirit.

At the kick-off meeting, letters of appointment were issued to 10 distinguished experts, including Chen Junshi, Du Xiangwan, Ouyang Ziyuan, Wu Xiangping, Zhou Zhonghe and other academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
