The predecessor of Beijing Jiaotong University is the Railway Management School affiliated to the Ministry of Posts and Communications of the Qing Government, which was founded in the first year of Xuantong. It is the first institution of higher learning in China to train railway management talents. Railway transportation has always been a characteristic discipline of our school, and railway related literature has also become a major feature of the library collection.

The characteristic literature of our library includes railway historical materials, Manchurian railway materials, teaching and research materials, traffic and transportation, especially the yearbook and statistical data of railway transportation, our university's academic theses and alumni library collecting the works of our faculty and alumni. In addition, there are ordinary books and periodicals of the Republic of China, ancient books and thread bound books.
