At more than 4:00 a.m. on May 21, a battery car fire accident suddenly occurred below the residential buildings of 16 buildings in Yutang Village Community, Jianye District, Nanjing. Fortunately, the residents found it in time and took the initiative to carry out self rescue. Apart from the burning of the vehicle, no casualties were caused.
When the reporter arrived at the Yutang Village Community, the fire had been put out, three electric cars and several bicycles had been burned into empty shells, and a car nearby was also partially burned. The firefighters barricaded the scene of the fire and investigated the cause of the accident. Ms. Meng, a resident of the community, told the reporter that she was the first to find a fire downstairs.
The eyewitness Ms. Meng recalled that the place of the charger was on fire, and then the fire slowly came up after the explosion. Ms. Meng quickly woke up her family, and then the family came downstairs with fire extinguishers. Before going downstairs, she turned off the main gate.
Later, more and more residents found the fire, and they spontaneously organized to fight the fire.
Mr. Zhang, the witness, said that he was watering the flowers in the morning and heard the explosion sound. After finding the fire, Mr. Zhang took two fire extinguishers. The first one extinguished the fire of the charger on the windowsill, and the second one extinguished the fire beside the car.
With the efforts of many people, the fire was finally controlled and soon the firefighters arrived at the scene. Residents of the community told reporters that before the new community, a special electric car shed had been built, which could be charged. However, because of the relative shortage of parking spaces and the unconsciousness of individual residents, the phenomenon of fly line charging still occurred.
Ms. Meng said that it started to burn from the battery body. After the car fell down, the wind blew slowly and the car burned.
Local community, public security and other departments also came to the scene to remind residents to pay attention to safety and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Qi Hongyun, secretary of the Party Committee of Chating Community, Jianye District, Nanjing, said that whether the fire broke out during charging or spontaneous combustion should be determined only after the results of the fire identification.
