Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong, May 17 (Reporter Liu Yinglun) - The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the People's Bank of China have made further achievements in the cooperation on the pilot of cross-border digital RMB payment, expanded the scope of the pilot of digital RMB in Hong Kong, facilitated Hong Kong residents to open and use digital RMB wallets, and through the electronic fast payment system, "fast transfer" Recharge the digital RMB wallet.

Expanding the cross-border pilot of digital RMB in Hong Kong is one of the six measures of "three connections and three conveniences" announced by the People's Bank of China earlier this year. After the expansion of the pilot scope, users can now open and use personal digital RMB wallets in Hong Kong with their mobile phone number in Hong Kong. Hong Kong users can recharge their wallets through 17 local retail banks through "fast turnaround", and use digital RMB in the Greater Bay Area and other pilot areas in the mainland.

Yu Weiwen, President of the HKMA, said that Hong Kong became the first cross-border pilot of digital RMB and the first area outside the mainland where local residents can open digital currency wallets. Digital RMB has expanded the pilot range in Hong Kong, so that users can recharge digital RMB wallets anytime and anywhere without opening a mainland bank account, facilitating Hong Kong people to consume in the mainland.

Yu Weiwen said that the HKMA will continue to work closely with the People's Bank of China to gradually expand the application range of digital RMB, enrich the functions of digital RMB wallets available to Hong Kong residents, and promote more retail merchants to accept digital RMB, so as to facilitate cross-border retail payment for residents in both places.
