In the first quarter, China's shipbuilding completion, new orders and hand orders increased by 34.7%, 59.0% and 34.5% year on year, respectively, accounting for 53.8%, 69.6% and 56.7% of the global total in terms of deadweight tons. Since this year, China's shipbuilding enterprises have had sufficient orders, and the coastal docks have been busy with production. New orders account for nearly 70% of the world's total, which highlights and consolidates the industrial competitive advantage of China's shipbuilding industry.

Advantage 1: comprehensive ability.

From 20 of the world's largest 24000 container ships, to 4 large LNG carriers of 174000 cubic meters, the world's largest LNG carriers of 80000 cubic meters in shallow water channels, to a batch of high-end marine engineering equipment such as new large-scale wind power installation ships in the deep sea, deep-sea breeding equipment, floating production storage and unloading ships, in 2023, a large number of "Made in China" of different types, models and functions Large ships have been delivered successively, which shows the strong ability of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises. In November 2023, the first domestic large cruise ship "Ida Mordor" was named and delivered, and on January 1, 2024, it officially launched commercially, which marks that China has formed the ability to build a full spectrum of marine products.

Since the new era, China's shipbuilding industry has continuously improved its innovation capability, accelerated transformation and upgrading, and achieved multiple breakthroughs in the fields of ultra large container ships, large liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships, high-end marine equipment, and ship core supporting equipment. Li Yanqing, secretary-general of China Shipbuilding Industry Association, said proudly, "In recent years, China's shipbuilding industry has significantly improved its ship type R&D and design capabilities, and has the ability to undertake all major ship types in the world."

Data is the best proof: in 2023, among the 18 major ship types in the world, 14 new orders of China's ship types will rank first in the world.

Advantage 2: leading efficiency.

Key shipbuilding enterprises basically realize the application of 3D digital process model (MBD) in the whole process of design and construction; Intelligent manufacturing production lines and production equipment such as profile cutting, group welding, medium group welding, plane section manufacturing, pipe processing have been successfully developed; In recent years, China's shipbuilding industry has accelerated the intelligent transformation and taken a new step in intelligent shipbuilding.

In Jiangnan Shipbuilding, it used to take an average of 28 months to build a 20000 container ship, but now it takes an average of 16 months to shorten the design cycle and improve the construction efficiency by relying on the "digital shipbuilding" technology. In Dalian Shipbuilding, it only takes about 180 days to build a VLCC, leading the international industry; Divide the load by the number of workers, and the per capita tonnage is between 18 tons and 20 tons, about 20% higher than five years ago. With higher efficiency and lower cost, Chinese shipbuilding enterprises can ensure fast and high-quality delivery of orders and win the trust of more shipowners at home and abroad.

Advantage 3: complete supporting facilities.

Shipbuilding is a "giant system project" with many parts, long supply chain and high industrial relevance. China has a complete industrial system, a leading industrial chain supporting capacity in the world, and the scale of manufacturing industry ranks first in the world for years, providing strong support and sufficient confidence for equipment manufacturing industry, including shipbuilding.

The shipment rate of domestic marine main engine, marine boiler, marine crane, marine gas supply system and other supporting equipment continued to increase; The research and development capability of high-end marine steel has been continuously enhanced. All crack arresters for large container ships have been replaced by domestic ones. The localization rate of chemical marine duplex stainless steel has increased from less than 50% to more than 90%; Domestic X92 large marine low-speed engine crankshaft forgings, wind power operation and maintenance ship compensation trestle, LNG ship filling system and other equipment have been delivered... In recent years, new progress has been made in the development and application of key ship supporting products in China, and the toughness and safety level of the industrial chain have been continuously improved. The common progress and collective leap of shipbuilding and supporting industries will further enhance the existing advantages.

Since 2020, the once depressed global shipbuilding industry has ushered in an upward cycle. Chinese shipbuilding enterprises have relied on their hard power to break into the market and grab orders. The current number of hand orders has reached a new high since 2014. Not long ago, China Shipbuilding Group and Qatar Energy Group held a ceremony to sign 18 of the world's largest 271000 cubic meters of super large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, fully demonstrating the further improvement of China's international influence in the construction of super large LNG ships. China will continue to consolidate its advantages, complement its weaknesses and accelerate the development of new quality productivity. China's shipbuilding industry will continue to provide new impetus for the development of the global shipbuilding industry and make new contributions to the world economy and human welfare.
