Ministry of Transport: China's total highway mileage reaches 5.35 million kilometers, ranking first in the world

People's Daily Online, Beijing, November 23 (Reporter Wang Lianxiang) "By the end of 2022, China's total highway mileage has reached 5.35 million kilometers, an increase of 1.12 million kilometers in ten years, including 177000 kilometers of highways open to traffic, ranking first in the world." Today, Guo Sheng, deputy director of the Highway Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, said at a regular news conference held by the Ministry of Transport in November.

Guo Sheng introduced that the specific important achievements of China's highway construction and development are reflected in the following aspects:

First, the road infrastructure network has been continuously improved. By the end of 2022, the total mileage of highways in China has reached 5.35 million kilometers, an increase of 1.12 million kilometers in ten years, including 177000 kilometers of highways open to traffic, ranking first in the world. The main lines of Beijing Shanghai, Beijing Hong Kong Macao, Shenyang Haikou, Shanghai Kunming and other national expressways were expanded and upgraded in sections, and the number of national expressways with more than six lanes increased by 18400 kilometers. The proportion of ordinary national roads of Class II and above and the proportion of paved roads reached 80% and 99%, respectively, about 10% and 13% higher than ten years ago, and the road network structure was further optimized.

Second, the construction of major projects has attracted worldwide attention. In the past ten years, highway construction has adhered to the national strategy and implemented a number of landmark major projects. The "four vertical and four horizontal" external backbone road network of Xiong'an New Area, with Beijing Xiongyang Expressway, Tianjin Shijiazhuang Expressway as the main framework, has basically taken shape. The Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, which was jointly built by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao for the first time, has been put into operation. More than ten channels across the Yangtze River, including the Fifth Nanjing Bridge, the Second Wuhu Bridge, and the Qingshan Bridge in Wuhan, have been completed successively. The Heihe Bridge, which was jointly built by China and Russia, has been successfully completed and opened to traffic. The Beijing Xinjiang Expressway, which is more than 2500 kilometers in length, has been put into operation, constantly creating new benchmarks for major highway projects.

Third, new ideas led to new results. Over the past decade, the Ministry of Transport has fully implemented the new development concept, organized the implementation of green road construction, created more than 30 pilot demonstration projects, and promoted the sustainable development of roads. With promoting the application of BIM technology as the starting point, we explored the smart transformation, formulated and issued a series of policy documents, and promoted the new and reconstructed smart roads to exceed 3500 kilometers. Expand the scope of standardized design, factory production and assembly construction, promote industrial construction, strengthen the promotion and application of highway steel structure bridges, and improve the construction efficiency and quality level.

Fourth, the construction technology has reached a new level. Over the past decade, highway construction has been constantly overcoming difficulties and breaking through a series of engineering bottlenecks. For example, projects such as Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge and Shenzhen China Channel have conquered key technologies such as construction, transportation and sinking of large-scale immersed tunnels; Qinling Tiantai Mountain Tunnel, Tianshan Shengli Tunnel and so on are world leaders in the design and construction of super long mountain tunnels; Large TBM, ultra-high strength steel wire and other domestic landmark materials and equipment have withstood the test of practice. In the past decade, the technical standards for highway engineering have increased from 88 to 158, forming a complete index system and standard system.

Fifth, the business environment was continuously optimized. Over the past decade, the transportation departments at all levels have deepened the reform of "decentralization, regulation and service", simplified approval, assisted enterprises in bailing out, improved credit evaluation, improved comprehensive efficiency, combined decentralization with regulation, and optimized services, creating a good market environment. The Ministry of Transport has actively introduced policies to support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises to ensure their fair participation in market competition. We will strive to clean up and standardize all kinds of deposits, reduce the burden on enterprises, and actively create a fair and honest market environment.

Sixth, the project quality level was comprehensively improved. Over the past ten years, the Ministry of Transport has insisted on the quality and safety of projects, constantly improved the system, strengthened supervision and inspection, standardized market order, tightened design review, strengthened completion acceptance, vigorously carried out the demonstration and construction of safe hundred year quality projects and safe construction sites, continuously strengthened the quality management of highway projects, steadily improved the overall quality of construction, and built highways The overall qualification rate of quality supervision and sampling inspection of trunk highways has steadily increased.

Guo Sheng said that in the next step, the Ministry of Transport will focus on networking, network supplementation and strong chain, highlight safety, convenience, economy, efficiency, integration, innovation, wisdom, green, inclusiveness and resilience, strive to build a modern highway infrastructure system, and help realize the beautiful vision of "people enjoy their travel and things flow smoothly".
