Bird Island is located in the southwest of Miyun Reservoir, covering an overall area of 165 mu, and 83 mu of bird nests are distributed, mainly including herons, cormorants and egrets. "At present, it is in the breeding period of birds. Standing nearby, you can hear the melodious singing of birds, and the young birds are waiting for the adult birds to come back." Meng Ziyou, the guard of the Inner Lake Station of Miyun Reservoir Water Ecology Institute, is familiar with such scenes, "At the end of February, after the birds returned from their migration, the stewards will observe the birds every day. After the middle of April, they will go to the island to observe the growth of birds during breeding and shell breaking, and put the birds in distress back to their nests or rescue them."

Miyun Reservoir is located in the Yanshan Hill in the north of North China, on the migration channel of East Asia Australasia migratory birds. At present, there are 13 bird monitoring sample sites here. In addition to the manual monitoring by water ecological stewards, the Miyun Reservoir Management Office also comprehensively uses AI intelligent bird monitoring system, infrared cameras and other equipment and instruments to monitor, record in detail the time, species and number of birds found, as well as the conditions of egg production, hatching and brooding in the breeding season, and master the basic data of biodiversity, Provide data support for water ecological protection and water environment treatment of Miyun Reservoir.

"The planting of hygrophytes can effectively absorb nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients in the water body, reduce the risk of eutrophication of the water body, and provide rich food for fish and birds, with significant ecological benefits." Liu Lei, deputy director of the Institute of Water Ecology, introduced that in addition to carrying out the improvement project of bird habitat management, the management office also adopted the construction of "Benjishidui" and self-made bird nests A variety of measures, such as rescue of wild animals such as birds and mammals, and tending of water conservation forests, have provided a good habitat and breeding environment for wild animals such as birds.

In recent years, as Miyun Reservoir vigorously promotes the ecological protection, restoration and management of the reservoir basin, the reservoir area is increasingly rich in biodiversity, and the ecosystem is more healthy and stable. According to the monitoring data statistics, since the systematic monitoring was carried out in 2019 to the end of 2023, there have been 45 kinds of birds added in Miyun Reservoir area.
