The Chinese Football Association announced on the 11th that Australian Ante Milicic has become the new head coach of the Chinese Women's Football Team. In this regard, the reporter interviewed the heads of relevant departments of the Football Association and learned about some of the process of selecting a coach.

First of all, who is Milicic, who was once the coach of the Australian women's football team? It is understood that in February 2019, the Australian Football Association announced that Milicic, who once served as assistant coach in the field of men's football, officially became the head coach of the Australian women's national team. He replaced Aaron Staychic, who had been fired after his outstanding coaching performance. As for the reason for the change of coach, the Australian Football Association said at that time that through some surveys and assessments, it involved many aspects of the national team environment, team culture and gender equality, and after understanding the situation with the players and staff, it found that the overall atmosphere of the national team was not satisfactory, so it made a decision to change the head coach.

The Australian Football Association said at that time that Milicic had a rich coaching experience and was capable of leading the Australian women's football team well. As an assistant, he helped two Australian men's national team coaches, Postkoglu and Van Marwijk, fight for two World Cups, and helped the "Kangaroo Team" win the men's Asian Cup in 2015 as a member of the coaching team.

After taking over the Australian women's football coach, Milicic led the team into the top 16 of the 2019 French Women's World Cup for about 18 months, and played against the Chinese team in the Olympic preliminaries, finally leading the team to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games. Subsequently, Milicic left his job due to the contract with the Australian Super League Club and moved to the Australian men's football professional arena.

So, how did the Chinese Football Association select him in this recruitment?

The person in charge of the relevant department of the Football Association introduced to the reporter that the selection work adhered to the basic principles of fairness, openness and merit, and carried out all work in a stable and orderly manner. The interview was conducted online, and the whole process was recorded. The national team construction advisory group consists of 7 people, with Fu Bo, the technical director of the men's national team, as the team leader. The members include Lars, the professional lecturer of the Association, and Frank, the director of women's football training. The interview is all led by the consultant expert group. Some selection procedures are as follows:

On March 19, the official website of the Football Association issued a notice to officially start the recruitment work.

The registration deadline is April 3. According to the preliminary review by the Football Association according to the registration conditions, a total of 42 people meet the basic qualifications, including 41 foreign coaches and 1 Chinese coach.

On April 10, the Technical Committee of the Football Association discussed the list of candidates for interview, screened and recommended 12 candidates according to relevant standards and submitted them to the National Team Construction Advisory Group for review. These standards include: having successful coaching performance as head coach of international competitions, coming from high-level countries (regions) of women's football, and having some knowledge of Chinese football.

On April 11, the National Team Construction Advisory Group selected the list of candidates and determined the list of nine candidates for the first round of interview.

April 15-22, the first round of interview. The candidate made a presentation around the teaching concept, the analysis of the current situation of the Chinese Women's Football Team, the future improvement plan and other contents, and then answered the questions of the national team advisory team. The interview time was 90 minutes. Subsequently, the members of the advisory team evaluated the candidates in turn and made clear whether to recommend them for the second round of interview. After evaluation and voting by the advisory group, the top 5 candidates entered the second round of interview.

April 22-24, the second round of interview. During the interview, the candidate is required to choose two recent matches of Chinese women's football, analyze the main problems and propose solutions. The presentation time should not exceed 45 minutes, and then answer questions. The members of the advisory team evaluate each candidate in turn, make clear whether to recommend him or her as the head coach of women's football and explain the reasons, and rank the recommended candidates.

After comprehensive review and consideration, two people finally entered the next link of selection - communication around work content, employment period, stage objectives, job responsibilities, assessment methods, salary, living conditions, etc. The Football Association held talks with their agents respectively, and finally chose Milicic as the head coach of the Chinese women's football team through several rounds of communication.

The person in charge of the relevant department of the Football Association said that Milicic has a rich teaching experience and advanced technical and tactical concepts. He has been teaching in the high-level team of the men's football team for a long time. As the first assistant, he participated in two World Cups, and also participated in the 2015 Asian Cup and won the championship. His coaching concept is in line with the development law of modern football, and his training experience of high-level men's football assistants leading the team is in line with the development needs of Chinese women's football training at this stage.
