To cope with international scientific and technological competition, achieve self-reliance in high-level science and technology, and achieve high-quality development, it is urgent to strengthen basic research and solve key technical problems from the source and bottom.

"Universities are an important source of innovation in basic research, and improving the advantages of basic research and interdisciplinary integration is conducive to the production of major original innovation achievements." Yu Wenjin believes that in the face of the new mission of strengthening the country, universities should focus on national strategic needs, fully release the scientific and technological innovation potential of basic research, and be the main force of basic research.

How to promote the development of basic research in colleges and universities? Yu Wenjin put forward three points based on the specific measures and achievements of Guangxi University: first, explore a new model of organized scientific research. Guangxi University has set up interdisciplinary scientific research projects, with the first batch of supporting funds of 8 million yuan invested, focusing on major topics, relying on major projects to carry out centralized research, forming a scientific research complex with multidisciplinary integration, multiple technology links, and results emerging in multiple paths.

Second, strengthen the construction of innovative talent team. In accordance with the integrated construction principle of "talent+project+base+discipline", Guangxi University has built a systematic innovation platform around talents, improved the talent incentive guarantee mechanism, and promoted the development of discipline connotation construction. In the past three years, the school has introduced more than 360 talents of all kinds, and has more than 60 national level talents such as academicians, outstanding young people, Yangtze River, Youthful Young People, and Ten Thousand Talents Plan. A group of local scientific researchers have also grown into national level talents.

Third, vigorously promote the reform of the scientific and technological system. Guangxi University boldly removed the obstacles in the scientific research system, issued the Scientific and Technological Innovation Action Plan of Guangxi University to "take root in Bagui and serve the national development", revised and implemented the "lump sum system" management measures for scientific research project funds (for trial implementation), the "vertical scientific research project settlement and savings management measures (for trial implementation)" and the "scientific research by-product management measures (for trial implementation)", etc, Further standardize scientific research management services, while giving researchers greater autonomy.
