The Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance was officially established in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province on the 26th, which will build a world lacquer art exchange platform to promote the innovative development of the lacquer industry.

China is the first country in the world to discover lacquer, plant lacquer trees and use lacquer liquid. It is also the country with the widest distribution of lacquer trees, the largest production of raw lacquer and the largest variety of lacquer technology. Archaeological discovery shows that lacquer ware existed during the Hemudu Culture period 7000 years ago. Since ancient times, Chinese lacquerware has been favored by countries all over the world and has become an important carrier for spreading Chinese culture.

The establishment of the Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance aims to promote academic, technical and other professional exchanges in the lacquer art industry nationwide and even around the world; Establish and maintain industry standards for raw lacquer processing, lacquer ware processing and production processes and product testing; Spreading lacquer culture, cultivating lacquer consumer market, and improving lacquer art inheritance and research and innovation level; Establish a mutually beneficial collaborative innovation mechanism to jointly promote the sustainable, healthy and high-level development of the national lacquer industry.

Chen Tong, Director of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said that at present, there are more than 20 regions in China whose lacquer painting skills have been included in the national intangible cultural heritage list, and about 30 people have been listed as the representative inheritors of the national intangible cultural heritage of lacquer painting skills. The Lacquer Art Inheritance and Development Alliance should carry out investigation and record of lacquer art, academic research, construction of the ecological system of lacquer art culture, and training of inheritors of lacquer painting skills, so as to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese lacquer culture.
