Starting from the city center and driving southeast for more than half an hour, Shijiazhuang International Biomedical Park (hereinafter referred to as "Biomedical Park") in Hebei Province arrived. Once entering the planned exhibition hall, the three floor booth is eye-catching, various medicine boxes and bottles are placed in an orderly manner, and the innovative drugs developed by enterprises in the park are dazzling.
In May 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed during his inspection here: "The biomedical industry is a strategic emerging industry that is related to the national economy, the people's livelihood and national security. We should strengthen the construction of basic research and scientific and technological innovation capacity, and firmly grasp the lifeblood of the development of the biomedical industry in our own hands."
"The ardent advice of the General Secretary has encouraged us to develop the bio pharmaceutical industry more firmly and devote ourselves to innovative research and development," said Liu Wenfu, deputy director of the management committee of the bio pharmaceutical park.
At the top of the booth, a glass bottle as big as a thumb was filled with white powder. "This is a new drug developed by North China Pharmaceutical, which can prevent rabies," Liu Wenfu said.
"It has taken us nearly 17 years to develop this drug." Wei Jingshuang, the chief expert of biological medicine in the New Drug Research and Development Co., Ltd. of North China Pharmaceutical Group, guided young people to do experiments.
Pick up a test tube, Wei Jingshuang shook it, looked at the light for a few seconds, added another reagent, and then said, "To do basic research and scientific and technological innovation, you should be willing to sit on the sidelines. Countless experiments are also a process of trial and error, and you can eliminate the impassable path, and then move on."
Looking at the quiet and busy young generation in the laboratory, Wei Jingshuang's originally serious face smiled: "We are constantly updating and improving the attitude of running to grasp innovation, and we have made phased achievements in the research of children's indications of this drug."
North China Pharmaceutical, Shijiazhuang Pharmaceutical Group, Huapu Biology... There are dozens of representative enterprise nameplates on the walls of the planning exhibition hall, and there are more than a dozen "whiteboards" on the right. "The blank space is reserved for innovative enterprises entering the park in the future," said Liu Wenfu.
Walking through the biomedicine park, many new pharmaceutical enterprises are gradually filling the "blank area". In 2023, the Biomedical Park will introduce 70 biomedical projects. "At present, there are more than 2900 biopharmaceutical enterprises in the whole district, and innovative research and development form a gathering trend." Ding Feiyan, deputy director of the management committee of Shijiazhuang High tech Industrial Development Zone where the biopharmaceutical park is located, introduced.
In March this year, Shijiazhuang Nuo Aoyuan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. settled in the park. In the shared laboratory in the park, rows of new instruments are shining, and Gai Dahai, the person in charge of the company, is watching the experimental changes intently.
"With an open shared laboratory, we can save more than 2 million yuan for equipment purchase, which is very suitable for companies like us that have just started up." Going out of the laboratory, Gai Dahai, as a returned doctor, gave a thumbs up. "The equipment here is very advanced."
From Hebei Tsinghua Development Research Institute to Hebei National Medical Device Innovation Service Station and other newly completed public service platforms, Shijiazhuang vigorously develops the biomedical industry. In 2023, the operating income of the city's bio pharmaceutical industry will exceed 100 billion yuan for the first time, with a year-on-year growth of 10.6%.
