Xiangtangshan Grottoes are located in Gushan, Fengfeng Mining Area, Handan City, Hebei Province. The grottoes were first chiseled in the reign of Emperor Gaoyang (550-559) of the Northern Qi Dynasty. Later, there were small-scale additional chiseling in the Sui, Tang and even Song and Ming dynasties. However, the main grottoes were carved in the Northern Qi Dynasty, representing the highest level of sculpture art at that time. The Xiangtang Mountain Grottoes were looted in 1912, and exquisite sculptures were chiseled away. Many fine sculptures were lost in Japan, Europe and the United States, The extant works are modern works added in 1922.

Xiangtang Mountain North Qi Grottoes Among the tower shaped grottoes, Cave 7 of the North Symphony Hall (commonly known as the North Cave) is the largest, square, about 12 meters long on each side, 11.6 meters high, and most beautifully carved. Unfortunately, the front porch has been destroyed, and only traces are left on the top of the bowl, but the cave is relatively complete. Above the top of the niche, there is also a row of small niches with Buddha statues carved inside. The left and right walls and the two sides of the back wall passing through the cave are lined with small tower shaped niches. The niche columns are polygonal in shape, with lotus hanging over the waist, similar to the shape of the niche columns outside the cave, and are based on kneeling monsters bearing lotus. The monster has an exaggerated shape, its feathers are cocky, its muscles are protruding, and its hooks and claws are powerful. It is a symbol of power and power. This kind of animal has tusks on its face and human body, wings on its shoulders, three claws and two toes, and its upper body is exposed Wearing calf nose pants There is a long tail, but there are also two feather like tails at the back of the legs, which often show the posture of running quickly or sitting in games. It is said that fear of beasts is a beast that can avoid evil, Its image was common in the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, and often appeared in epitaphs, tomb murals, sarcophagus beds, and grottoes as guardians.
